Scenes from Lowell: Love Week Edition

Another Impact Love Week has come to an end.  This year a total of 32 projects (3 were canceled and 2 added) were completed.  Volunteers numbering 627 spent 2390 hours throughout the week showing and sharing love within the community.

At Alpha Family Center the ramp which was painted last year was power washed this year.

One of the projects at Senior Neighbors was working on the garage.  Looks like there’s some evidence of painting too!

Here’s the group of volunteers who worked at Englehardt Library lead by Becky DeVito.

The lobby at Englehardt Library got a face lift.  Volunteers here had to aim high to paint the walls.  But the new yellow paint is cheery and welcoming as you enter the building.

This group had to watch the skies for an incoming storm as they chipped paint off the curb outside Big Boiler Brewing.  Their smiles show they didn’t mind.

Chip and sweep.  Chip and sweep.  We hope people driving along Main Street saw their red shirts and knew they were working on a Love Week project.

Volunteers at Bushnell Elementary painted the curb along the drop off area.

Those working at the airport soared above ground to paint one of the hangers.  Work here often goes unseen but the volunteers aren’t appreciated any less than those working in a more visible spot.

One of the biggest projects was replacing the playground equipment at Stoney Lakeside Park.  A couple of years from thought to finish volunteers here spent 12 hour days (in four-hour shifts).  Project leader Chris German guided his team through removal of the old equipment to having the new structure ready for use.  Here the poles which supported the old set are pulled out like teeth with the help of some big machinery.

Pieces of the new structure arrived in two huge boxes.  Unpacking and preparation was handled with ease.

Progress was seen after the completion of each day’s work.  Here part of a ramp is being installed making portions of the playground wheelchair accessible.

Around the perimeter an underground barrier marks off the space where wood chips will be filled in.

And finally a nice, new area for kids to enjoy spending time outside.  Come check out the three slides, cool climbing areas, and a swing an adult and toddler can use at the same time.

Another Love Week may have come to an end but the impact of the projects will be seen and felt for years to come.  Impact Church volunteers love their community and are dedicated to serving others.  Bob Rogers coordinated all of the projects and served as the main contact for group leaders.  He already has a couple of things in the works for next year.

Love Week volunteers certainly show everyone why the Lowell community is a great place to visit and an even better place to call home.  If you’re interested in seeing more photos we took throughout the week visit our Flickr album.
