Our recap of the first city council meeting of the month was one of the most-read articles in July. The council covered a wide range of topics in the open portion of its meeting before heading into a one hour closed session to discuss “pending litigation.” A change to the fireworks ordinance, an agreement with the Kent County Youth Fair and electrical easements were all among the action items on the agenda.
4. Scenes from Lowell: 2019 Riverwalk Festival Edition
Thousands turned out for the 2019 Riverwalk Festival. Put on by the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, the annual event offers fun for residents and visitors of all ages. From a book sale to pontoon boat rides to live music, the festival keeps Lowell hopping for three days, and our photo recap was a hit with readers as well.
3. Burger King is Coming Back to Lowell
Yes, this article from November 2018 was one of the most popular articles in July 2019. That’s because you have likely seen the Burger King building and sign going up at the corner of Main Street and Valley Vista. Well, we’ll let you in on a secret. We’ve seen the inside and have been told the tentative opening date. Watch for an article later this week with photos and more details on when the restaurant will open.
2. Keeping Lowell Safe: Police Beat for June 2019
It wouldn’t be a top five list without the Police Beat. It’s a reader favorite and was the second most-read article in July 2019. The big news of the month was that the Lowell Police Department finally cracked the case about who was stealing cars from the west side of town for late night joyrides.
1. Pink Arrow Pride: Stories of Perseverance
We talk a lot about Pink Arrow Pride in Lowell, and the annual stories of perseverance provide a glimpse into what it means to be on the receiving end of that community support. Everyone’s story is different, but they all touch us in the same way. In July, perseverance stories made up three of the top five articles and five of the top ten articles for the month. Rather than list them each individually, we decided it would be best to roll them together and declare the perseverance stories as, collectively, the most read articles last month.
