The website had 12,838 views in May, and that’s in addition to the 12,363 people our Facebook page reached during the month. While the City of Lowell has been at the center of many of the most popular articles during previous months, May was dominated by township and school news.

5. New Plan Announced for Vergennes Township Hall
Vergennes Township was in the midst of planning to build a new hall when opportunity knocked. Officials discovered the former Kingdom Hall on Lincoln Lake Ave. would be on the market shortly, and it could be purchased and renovated for far less than the cost of new construction. Township taxpayers stand to save half a million dollars as a result.
4. Keeping Lowell Safe: Police Beat for April 2019
The Police Beat is a perennial favorite and was the fourth most-read story last month. One reader did take issue with the “forced vernacular” of one section, noting it was a bit cringeworthy. We’d like to take a moment to address that. Much to the chagrin of Maryalene’s teens, her cringeworthy vernacular comes quite naturally.
3. Lowell Area Schools End of Year Schedule
In early May, Lowell Area Schools told parents that the school year was being extended to June 10th to make up for the year’s snow days. Our story on that announcement was the second most-read article in May. Fortunately for district students, the Michigan Legislature later passed a bill forgiving some snow days and allowing classes to end on June 4th instead.
2. Lowell Township Park Nearing Completion
The North Grand River Riverfront Park has garnered plenty of interest from the community. Our latest update on the status of the park was the second most popular article in May. Watch Lowell’s First Look this week for more information about a “West End Reveal” event that will incorporate the park into the annual Pink Arrow Community Day.
1. Lowell Area Schools Names New Red Arrow Varsity Coach
There is no denying Lowell loves its high school football team. So it’s not surprising that people were interested to read more about the newest varsity coach. The press release announcing Jacob Henige’s appointment to the position was the most-read article on Lowell’s First Look for the month of May 2019.
