4. Letter to the Editor: Frustration and Anger Over Attacks on School District

We published several letters to the editor this month, and this one was the first and most widely read. A reader sent it after learning that a parent with children enrolled in Lowell Area Schools tried to file criminal charges against Board of Education members for accepting a committee recommendation about a challenged book. The author of this letter shared her anger that someone who lives outside the district would take such a step and her frustration that so much time and energy has been spent on the topic of school library books when there are other challenges facing the community.

Vacant storefronts on Main Street don’t seem to stay vacant long, and the newest business in the historic downtown is Four Acre Freedom. 1. Historic Hale House to be Sold as Senior Neighbors and Gilda’s Club Relocate

The most popular story in May was a press release announcing the sale of the historic Hale House. This is the distinctive home located on S. Hudson Street across from the fairgrounds.
