4. Lowell City Council Candidate Profile: Mike DeVore

We published 14 articles as part of our 2019 election coverage, but only one landed in the top five for October. That article was our candidate profile of Mike DeVore. He would go on to receive 403 votes in the election and secure a four-year term on the council. That was second only to Cliff Yankovich’s 465 votes.

Some people have asked whether DeVore’s second place finish will mean he loses the title of Mayor, which he currently holds. The answer is: not necessarily. While city voters elect councilmembers, the council decides among itself who is the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. So it will be up to the five councilmembers to decide whether to reappoint DeVore to the mayor’s seat or pass the torch to someone else.
