Annual Fire Dept Pancake Breakfast This Saturday

Before you head to the Lowell Expo this Saturday, stop by the fire station for a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausages, coffee and orange juice. After a pandemic-related hiatus, the Lowell Area Fire Department is pleased to once again be able to host their annual fundraiser breakfast.

“1953 was our first firemen pancake breakfast,” says Fire Chief Shannon Witherell. “It started off at the American Legion Hall and moved to our new building in 1991.”

The event provides the community a chance to meet area firefighters and check out the department’s trucks and equipment. Plus, it is a way for the Lowell Area Fire Department to raise funds for various needs that aren’t covered in their regular budget.

“This year, we’re raising funds for our recently formed honor guard,” Witherell says.

Six firefighters have volunteered for the guard and have been meeting once a week for three hours to practice. Their opening march is expected during Lowell’s Memorial Day Parade. After that, they will be available for parades, funerals and other events, both in Lowell and across the state.

But first, the honor guard needs specific flags and uniforms. Saturday’s pancake breakfast should make those purchases possible.

There isn’t a charge to attend the breakfast, but donations will be accepted. Witherell says most people donate about $5 or $6 per person although there isn’t a suggested donation amount.

To defray costs, Alto Gas is donating propane while Suez – which operates the city’s wastewater treatment facility – is covering the cost of eggs.

Those looking for a good breakfast and a chance to support the Lowell Area Fire Department can stop by the station at 315 S. Hudson Street between 7am-11am on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Witherell says people can park anywhere in the station lot so long as they aren’t blocking any fire trucks. Enter through the front door.

Once you’ve had your fill, head up to Lowell High School for the Lowell Community Expo which will be happening until 2pm. The Lowell Area Fire Department will have a booth as will dozens of other local businesses, non-profits and organizations. Make plans to stop by and see all that Lowell has to offer.
