Behind the Big Screen

Having opened in 1996, Ada Lowell 5 has been entertaining patrons for over 20 years.  But perhaps it’s the events and contributions to the community which make the theater a box office hit for Lowell.

Giving Back

The Goodrich theater is currently managed by Jeff Johns.  He has been in this role for two years.  There are typically between 15-25 total staff depending on the time of the year.  According to Johns “nearly every staff member attends or has attended school in Lowell or Ada”.

Ada Lowell 5 supports the community it calls home.  Complimentary Concession Coupons are donated to charities and events.  Popcorn donations are given to school activities and events.  Occasionally movie posters and passes are given for auctions.  Promotional fliers for community events are often displayed in the theater.

Working with Others

Johns also enjoys working with local businesses for cross promotion.  He says, “Whenever we have a comic book themed movie coming out we work together on a promotion with Rookies Sports cards Plus.”  Last fall he worked with Dippy Do’s Daycare for a special lights up, sound down showing of Sing in January.  There are typically two such showings per year.

A monitor in the lobby is used to promote local activities and perhaps a hidden, untapped resource for non-profit organizations.  Organizations are able to submit a video or photo collage to be played in the lobby free of charge.  Johns indicates, “It is under-used because organizations don’t really know about it or really can’t believe we do it for free. We do!”  Finally something too good and it’s true!

More than a Movie

Have you ever wanted to have a personal showing of a movie?  Well you can at Ada Lowell 5.  The price varies depending on the time of day and day of the week as well as what movie is shown.  Johns also adds, “We love to support independent / Michigan filmmakers and we give them very competitive rates to premiere their films in our theaters. If interested in renting a theater, just contact us with the details of what you’re hoping to do and we’ll try to find something within your time frame and budget.”

A recently released Goodrich Quality Theaters app puts current showtimes at your fingertips.  And a Frequent Movie Goers program earns points which add up to discounts and coupons, get a discount on Reel Deal concessions, and get up to six free Weekend Movie Morning Movie tickets per membership.  Registration is free in person, online, or via the app.

In the spring Weekend Morning Movies take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10am.  The series of movies is over for this year but be sure to check back in March and April next year to see the new lineup.  Oftentimes activities for kids take place before the showing of one of these movies.  Easter Sunday kids enjoyed an egg hunt in one of the theaters prior to a showing of Trolls.

And the Oscar Goes To…

Johns says Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Deadpool, and Beauty and the Beast have been the most popular films shown since he has been manager.  The long list of movies people can’t wait to be released include Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Despicable Me 3, Spiderman: Homecoming, and The Dark Tower.

Ada Lowell 5 offers much more than simply a movie and snacks.  Special movie screenings, activities for kids, and more are a good reasons to stay in the community for your movie going needs.
