OPENING FOR THE ARTS

The owners of Big Boiler Brewing, Brent Slagell, Rick Sauber and Matt Fouts were approached by Dave and Jan Thompson with the idea to dedicate their Grand Opening to help the LowellArts, Moving to Main Campaign, and they thought it was a great idea.   All those wishing to be a part of this event will need to purchase a ticket at the LowellArts website.

For the price of a $50 ticket, each diner will be able to choose an appetizer, entree, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages from the full menu.   Proceeds from the ticket sales for the night will go towards the final $100,000 needed to be raised by LowellArts to complete their moving campaign.  Although the ticket costs does not include alcoholic beverages, there will be a full bar available for an extra charge and remember, tipping the staff is not included in the price of the ticket.

Opening night will have four seating times, 5:00 & 5:30pm, and 7:00 & 7:30pm.  Tickets can only be purchased through LowellArts.   When purchasing your ticket online, you will have the opportunity to pick your seating time.

LowellArts Executive Director, Lorain Smalligan, is excited about the June 24th Grand Opening.   Stating that “Finally having the building used after sitting empty for ten years is wonderful.  The restaurant will be a huge anchor on this side of town.  It drives people to want to come to Lowell, we are a destination”.

CREATIVE TAKE ON BEVERAGES

It goes without saying that Big Boiler Brewing will have some amazing craft brews, but owner and bar manager, Rick Sauber wants patrons to know that Big Boiler will also offer a full bar with creative specialty drinks.   One of his favorites, a beverage called the #318, named after the address of the old Superior Building is a bourbon, infused with vanilla, raisin and elderflower liquor.

Another specialty “The Shrub”, increasingly a favorite in trendy restaurants across the nation, will have Rick’s special touch.   The Shrub has the characteristics of sweet strawberries and simple syrup, a bit of tart from lemon balm and “sipping” apple cider vinegar,  white rum and topped with passion fruit sparkling water.   These are just a few of the creations Sauber will offer from behind the bar.

Rick shows off the artistically designed bar, constructed out of concrete and acid stained by local concrete artisan Josh Grim, of Grim Enterprises.   “It’s turned out.  My expectations were high, they were exceeded.   I can’t wait to show the place off”, he explained.

Executive Chef Jake Warnes

MEET THE CHEF

Beneath the glow of Edison Bulbs, surrounded by contractors busily completing the finishing touches of the artfully designed restaurant, Jake “Rake” Warnes the executive chef sits reviewing the final menu.  His face carries the look excitement with a bit of  stress.   As the soft opening approaches, he wants to be certain that everything runs smoothly from day one.

Jake has been working in the restaurant industry for approximately 15 years.   Originally inspired by his mother, and getting his start at Jimmy’s Grill, he decided to make the culinary trade his career.   His move from the Flat River Grill was a big step, but he is ready for his new responsibilities.   “I’ve worked for this for a long time, and everything fell into place.  I’m here for a reason, to cook great food and make people happy”, Jake explains.   “I’m ready for more responsibility, more creativity”.

Restaurant General Manager, Matt Horan said that “This is an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.  Working with a new group and Rick.  Hopefully we will create a lot of great memories, and I’m excited about Matt’s beer”.

OPPORTUNITIES

The management of Big Boiler is still looking for a few more employees in the back of the house.   They explained that they are working with a great team but would welcome another team member in the back of the house who has experience and is ready to take on a leadership role.   There are still challenges ahead, not the least of which is training the staff in all aspects of the business.   The owners feel confident and are looking forward to the Grand Opening and presenting Big Boiler Brewery for the first time.
