Christmas Through Lowell’s 2018 Featured Location is for the Birds

Christmas Through Lowell is happening this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and this year’s featured location isn’t afraid to take a walk on the wild side. You could even say it’s for the birds…and the squirrels…and the deer.

That’s because this year’s featured location is the Lowell Farm & Wildlife Center on Vergennes Road. It’s a non-profit rehabilitation center and licensed by the Department of Natural Resources to care for orphaned and injured animals.

“We helped 1,558 animals last year,” says Sjana Gordon, the founder and driving force behind the center. Those animals were mostly wildlife but also included farm animals and domestic reptiles.

Christmas Through Lowell has been the main fundraiser for the center each year since 2004. Shoppers can stop by this weekend for handmade gifts while supporting a good cause.

Wool Rugs, Dollar Pull Prizes and More

Items sold during Christmas Through Lowell are handmade, and Gordon’s specialty is wool rugs. She makes dozens and sells them for $25 each. “[You’re] not going to find a wool rug that cheap anywhere,” she says.

In addition to her rugs, the Lowell Farm & Wildlife Center will host at least six other vendors. There will be birdhouse hats, squirrel feeders and honey for sale among other items. Learning from Scratch, which focuses on creative recycling and upcycling, will also be on hand for the event.

Visitors can make a donation to vote for their favorite baby animal from the past year, and a dollar pull game will also be offered. Tickets for the game can be purchased for $1 each or six for $5. For each ticket purchased, visitors can pull a number from a bag. If their number matches a prize on the shelf, they get the item.

The Lowell Farm & Wildlife Center is stop number 13 during Christmas Through Lowell. You can visit it at 12494 Vergennes from 9am-9pm on Friday, 9am-7pm on Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday. Vendors will be in the building past the pond and to the left of the house at the end of the center’s drive.
