City Issues Press Release on Resignation of Alan Teelander

City Manager Mike Burns shared the following press release regarding the resignation of Alan Teelander from the Lowell City Council.

 

August 9, 2017 — Mayor Pro Tem Alan Teelander has announced today that effective at Midnight on August 10, 2017 he will resign as a member of the Lowell City Council. Teelander was elected to a four-year term in November of 2015.

“I consider Alan Teelander to be a friend, however, Alan did what he believed was in the best interest of the City of Lowell. Alan loves the City of Lowell and I am supportive of his decision. I wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Mayor Mike DeVore.

Teelander’s term is scheduled to expire in January 2020. The City Charter states that a resignation of a Councilmember shall be made in writing and filed with the City Clerk. It shall be acted upon by the Council at its next regular meeting. The City Council next meets on Monday August 21, 2017 at 7:00 PM.

At that meeting, if the City Council accepts the resignation, the City Charter states that “the City Council shall, within thirty days after such vacancy occurs, appoint a person who possesses the qualifications required of holders of said office.” If someone is appointed, they will assume Teelander’s term until January 2020.
