The second and fourth Tuesday of each month, the East Side Artisan Market sets up outside Ball’s Softee Creme. This is the second year Frank Leasure of Tuckertown Forge and his daughter, Teresa Goldner have organized the market. Tuckertown Forge sponsors the market, which offers items from a variety of vendors.
Goldner has a set-up of a variety of items she has made including magnets, dish cloths, and quilted items. Leasure offers a wide variety of metal yard art. He uses common items found around a home or farm to create unique products. Another vendor offers glass art. Items and vendors offering their products change each week.
“My dad has been talking for a while to have an artisan market in the summer. We felt like the items we offer aren’t something you would see at a farmers market so the idea of a little artisan market came about.” says Goldner or how the market began last summer. After receiving permission from Jim Ball to set up outside Ball’s, the rest as they say, is history.
Leasure and his wife, Laura travel once a month to the Kane County Flea Market in Illinois. In August, they’re looking to bring those who are interested along with them. Frank has a booth there and knows the flea market is a draw for both dealers and shoppers. It’s boasted as one of the top 10 flea markets in the world with over 400 vendors over acres of ground. Each month 30,000 people visit the location.
The cost of the trip $60/person, a light breakfast, bus ride to and from the market, and entrance fee. The bus will depart the Park & Ride off I-96’s Exit 52 at 7:30am, arrive around noon, and depart at 5pm on Saturday, August 4. The group will stop for dinner on the way home (meal not included in the price of the trip) and food is available from vendors throughout the day at the market. Stop by the East Side Artisan Market tomorrow between 5:30pm – 8:30pm and check out the variety of items offered from multiple vendors. And plan on stopping by twice a month to see what new items find their way to the market throughout the summer.
