Englehardt Offers Monthly Movie Discussion Program

For those who love to watch movies and discuss them afterward, Movies with Mary is for you!  The monthly event hosted at the Englehardt Kent District Library (KDL) branch has two more sessions before taking a break over the summer.

There’s Something About Mary

Mary Long can easily be considered the film expert at KDL’s Englehardt Branch.  She enjoys making recommendations to patrons, steering them in the direction of flicks with some substance.  Due to her love of movies a new program, Movies with Mary was created.

Participants are invited to watch the film of the month, have some popcorn, and stick around to talk about the month’s selection.  It’s like a book club where all of the prep work and discussion takes place on the same day. In past months Duck Soup, It Happened One Night, and Dr. Strangelove have been viewed followed by discussion.  On Saturday, April 20 beginning at 1pm the 1944 film Double Indemnity will be shown and discussed.  Long will lead discussion but participants usually steer the conversation.

Saturday, May 18’s feature will be Notorious.  The May event is the last before the program goes on a summer hiatus.  But Movies with Mary hopes to pick up again in the fall with a new lineup of discussion worthy works.

Whether you’ve seen the movie of the month or it’s new, the community is invited to take in a film, have a snack, connect with others who are interested in movies, and participate in a discussion.  The program (and popcorn) is free.

If you’re not able to make one of the last two Movies with Mary programming, but see Long when you’re visiting Englehardt, don’t hesitate to ask for movie recommendations.
