Michigan in the Civil War
Tuesday, November 13
Lowell Township Hall
2910 Alden Nash, Lowell
“Thank God for Michigan”. This brief prayer was spoken by President Abraham Lincoln as our nation began its tragic four year Civil War. Across five Aprils from 1861 to 1865 armies of the North and South were engaged in an intense military struggle designed to solve the national issues that our Congress could not. As our nation today honors and recognizes the 153th Anniversary of the most intense fighting of that war, see the artifacts and hear the stories of this conflict that have survived to this day.
Our presenter will be Al McGeehan, former Mayor of the City of Holland, teacher and long-time Civil War collector, writer and speaker. McGeehan will be our guest and will share his collection of war- time artifacts as he takes us back to the time of Abraham Lincoln and America’s heartbreak.
