FROM Pleased to Announce Acquisition of Two Housing Properties

LOWELL: In response to an increasing community need for affordable housing, Flat River Outreach Ministries (FROM) has acquired two housing units at 504 and 512 Main Street in Lowell. This new endeavor fits with FROM’s mission of walking alongside people in need as well as the agency’s strategic plan to address housing options in the community.

“The desire to address our community’s need for housing is not something new, but has been brought to the forefront more and more,” says Roger LaWarre founding member of FROM. “With our Neighbor to Neighbor program we have witnessed the need first-hand when we go into individual’s homes. It has really opened our eyes to the need for affordable housing as we see the conditions of the dwellings some people are living in and the extent of the necessary repairs.”

Housing fits with FROM’s overall vision and strategic plan to help meet the needs in Lowell. Over the last few years FROM has changed its service delivery from a transactional to a transformational model working with people to improve their lives by walking alongside them and providing services to help them become self-sustaining instead of only offering one-time assistance.

“We are so excited at this opportunity, which addresses a need identified by many in our community, including our stakeholders.” says Dawn Broene Executive Director, Flat River Outreach Ministries. “We will be taking careful steps in this process as we analyze the best uses of the units and we will be intentional with our direction as we work for the betterment of our community.”

In order to effectively address the housing need, FROM has been learning from other key players in the affordable housing industry. FROM Leadership has been gleaning best practices and analyzing outcomes from larger agencies and will be bringing this information to a local level that is tailored to fit the specific needs of our community.

FROM feels fortunate to have been in a position to acquire the two properties and credits careful stewardship of resources, generosity of the community, and continued success of Treasures Thrift Shop, which enabled this dream to become a reality.

Flat River Outreach Ministries (FROM) is a nonprofit organization focused on bringing together individuals, families, churches and businesses to respond to the needs of our neighbors in the greater Lowell community. Organized in 1998 by 13 local churches, FROM is a Christian organization helping our neighbors in need buy walking alongside them; helping them improve their quality of life.
