Flat River Outreach Ministries: January Volunteer of the Month

We received the following information from Flat River Outreach Ministries about their January volunteer of the month.

The Flat River Outreach Ministries’ (FROM) Volunteer of the Month for January is Sylvia Taylor, Food Pantry Manager. In this role, Sylvia oversees the Christmas Food Distribution portion. That means, she picks the menu, orders needed food and organizes the food-related volunteers-and that’s a lot of people. This year they had “twenty-five to thirty volunteers,” says Sylvia. “They unloaded trucks with heavy pallets of food; packed and organized the food baskets, and helped individuals/families carry the food out of the building. All the volunteers in the pantry are super and I depend on them so much.  They are all wonderful.”  We need all their help to make this food distribution happen.”

Sylvia starts ordering food in August, but the bulk of the planning and work starts in October and goes right up til the distribution date. She normally volunteers 10-15 hours each week, but during the week that led up to the distribution she was volunteering up to 40 hours!

Sylvia has been volunteering at FROM since 2010. She’s worn many different hats during that time, including data entry in the Food Pantry, Interim Executive Director and, since 2012, her current role of Food Pantry Manager.

When asking what her favorite part of volunteering is, she stated, “Helping families who are struggling makes all this worthwhile.”

Thank you Sylvia for all you do and thank you for making our Christmas Food Distribution run so smoothly.
