The Lowell community will soon see a new storefront opening in downtown Lowell, and it’s one that will be sure to attract lovers of unique crafts and gifts.
Lowell Township couple Victor and Adrienne Murdock will be opening Four Acre Freedom at 102 West Main Street, and for them, it is sort of a celebration of freedom to create things that they love.
The Murdocks moved to Lowell from the Grand Rapids area several years ago and have been selling crafts from their website as well as at local fairs for three years. The name of the store honors the property they live on in Lowell Township where they enjoy raising their family with physical space and freedom to live a more homesteading lifestyle.
Four Acre Freedom features items made mostly from wood, metal, glass, and leather, and also sells baked goods. One of the most unique things about this store is everything can be custom made.
“We have something for everybody, even the person who’s hard to shop for,” Adrienne says. “A lot of a little bit of everything.”
Victor has a background in construction and metal fabrication and engineering. He is a self-taught artist who is always looking for new projects.
“I’ve always made stuff. I’ve always been good with my hands, and it sort of turned into a business,” he says.
Adrienne is an obstetrician with Corewell Health. She creates the baked goods that will be regularly stocked but is also available to make customized orders.
Aiming to open Four Acre Freedom the second week of May, Victor says they are most likely going to do a soft opening first and are hoping to coincide with Lowell’s Market on Main event scheduled for May 13.
The storefront is in the process of getting ready for customers, and the Murdocks are excited to be a part of Lowell’s diverse and artistic community.
“There’s always been neat things here, but in the past few years, I just feel like there are so many interesting people and shops and restaurants,” Adrienne says. “People say ‘it’s the next place to be,’ and it really is.”
Victor agrees, “The sense of community here is awesome. That’s why we love it here.”
The Murdocks are looking forward to their business taking root in their new space amongst the other Lowell storefronts.
“The Lowell community is committed to small businesses and staying community based, and that’s fantastic,” Adrienne says. “It’s a wonderful client base to serve. We’re very much looking forward to that.”
