FROM Seeks Volunteers to Become Tax Preparers

Each year hundreds of individuals and families are helped with their taxes thanks to Flat River Outreach’s (FROM) tax assistance program. This year FROM is looking for individuals who are interested in becoming tax preparers.

The Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is established through a partnership with FROM between the United Way and the IRS. Kent County residents who meet the income guidelines are able to make an appointment starting in mid-January for free assistance and have their taxes e-filed by trained volunteers.

FROM is looking for members of the community to take part in 20 hours of training and education. Participants will be certified by the IRS with yearly renewal. VITA runs on Tuesdays from 9am – 7pm February 1 until April 12 at the FROM main office. The volunteer can choose his or her hours during these times.

Those who are interested in volunteering and being trained should call 616-897-8260 to express interest. The tax coordinator will be able to provide additional information and answer questions.
