Fun with FROM: Wendie Preiss

In a new series, Flat River Outreach Ministries will be introducing the community to some of the people involved with the organization. We will be sharing information posted on their Facebook page.
Wendie joined our staff as the Executive Director in 2020, but she and her husband, Dave, have been involved as volunteers since 2018! Let’s get to know a little more about Wendie, and why she wears donut socks!
How did you get involved with FROM?
One of our board members suggested that I volunteer at FROM. So, I started in the donation room on Friday mornings. My husband and I volunteered together. I was amazed that we literally got EVERYTHING, including kitchen sinks!
What is it about the FROM mission that is so important to you?
Our mission really means a lot to me: “To be the Great Lowell community hub where hope, resources, and gifts are shared.” I envision an old West trading post where people are dropping off and picking up things, but our trading post isn’t just food or clothing that are exchanged. There are also kind words, smiles, prayers, and hope that are shared.
What do you love about the Greater Lowell Community?
Nature is what drew me to Lowell. The generosity of the community is what keeps me here. After living in a big city, we knew we wanted to live in a more rural area with lots of nature. Once we moved here, we learned of so many opportunities for our kids which are only available through the generosity of our community.
What’s a random fact about yourself?
I wear socks with donuts on them. Some of you may know that I try to lead a pretty healthy lifestyle. I eat salads, exercise regularly, and stay active. Basically, I do all of those things because I like donuts. I can pass on chocolate, but not donuts. Glaze, apple fritter, peanut-covered, plain – all of the above!
We are so thankful for Wendie and all the hard work she puts in to lead FROM well. Stop by #FlatRiverOutreachMinistries to say hi to Wendie – she’d love to give you a tour and share about the projects FROM is working on this year to better serve the community!
