Furry Friday

While local shelters are not actively doing adoptions at this time, some are still taking applications for their available pets.   If you see a cat or dog you’re interested in, contact the organization directly to see what they are doing during this stay at home order.

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats and dogs looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

For additional information about each organization visit their websites or read our intro article to Furry Friday!  The following pet profiles are provided by each rescue.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi! I’m Donna. (Insert puppy dog eyes here), I’ve got them down to a science, it’s how I persuade the volunteers and staff here to snuggle with me all day! When I’m not cuddled up under my blankets, I can be found in a mud puddle or in the lap of a human! My favorite hobby is making my people laugh, I do what they call “zoomies” and run around at the speed of light! Hearing them laugh and seeing them smile is my favorite thing in the world (aside from treats that is)! I’ve had a few dog friends here at Mackenzie’s and wouldn’t object to more in my forever home but will shine best in a home without those of the feline variety! I can’t wait to meet you and show you how good I am at zoomies (and puppy dog eyes)! Fill out your adoption application TODAY!

My name is Baylee!! I am one sweet girl if I do say so myself. I used to live in a house with kids, cats and dogs, until I let the lure of the open roads call to me. I wouldn’t suggest that, as if you follow your nose, you may get taken away by animal control. I found a new temporary home at Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary, but I really do want to find my new family.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Jetson (aka Jet) is a 6mo old Staffordshire Terrier mix. When he isn’t wrestling with his foster sister (which is most of the time), Jet enjoys chewing on toys, going for walks and laying out in the sun. He is a medium energy level; always ready to play when someone else wants to, but will also nap if everyone else is. Jet needs another dog friend in the home, preferably one that is confident as he tends to be afraid of strange people/noises, and will look to his braver friend for social cues when he is unsure. He is ALL puppy, working on; potty training, making good choices when picking chew toys (ie: not flip flops), leash manners and overall confidence. He would greatly benefit from group puppy-classes, and will need someone to keep up with socialization as he tends to default to fear when he is unsure of strangers. Jet is reluctantly crate trained; he really does not like being in his crate, and will bark for the first while he is in there, so he probably is not a candidate for apartment or shared-wall living. Jet is snuggly with humans and dogs alike, shares his toys well, is learning commands, loves to wrestle rough & tumble style, and sleeps overnight in his crate without accidents. He also likes kitties, but is still learning his manners and how to play gently with them! He is neutered, chipped and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $250.

Meet Elmo!  This adorable 2 year old, 54 pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix is a big hunk just looking for some love.  He enjoys following his people around the house and showering them with kisses.  This smart boy is already house trained and crate trained, and he also knows sit, down, and place.  He loves to go for walks, but he needs some help learning how to walk nicely on leash, especially when there are distractions – the world is pretty exciting, so can you blame him?  Elmo is good with other dogs, but we are not sure how he is with cats or kids since his foster family does not have any.  He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.  His adoption fee is $200.  To adopt Elmo apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application
