Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats, dogs, or farm animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

For additional information about each organization visit their websites or read our intro article to Furry Friday!

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

Kittens, Kittens, Kittens!!!  So many to choose from!!  Come meet them, play with them, and cuddle them.

Stuart, Beta, and Berkley are just three of more than 45 cats and kittens which would have been displaced, if a CF volunteer had not stopped when she spotted many cats on a porch.  A disabled veteran had been caring for them until being served with a six-week eviction notice.  CF volunteers spent hours trapping the cats and got them spay/neutered.  The friendly cats and kittens came into the adoption program; CF is finding barn homes for the ferals.  After the eviction, the house owner had his crew rip out the deck and shed where all the cats were living.  Those poor cats would have had nowhere to go.

If you want a lover who gives hugs and kisses, ask for me, Stuart.  It’s surprising how loving I am considering my former circumstances.

My name is Beta.  I am timid, but slowly coming out of my shell.  I am not a fan of the other cats, but come listen to me purr.

I’m Berkley, and I’ll match my purr with Beta’s any time.  Yes I am shy, but I love being petted, so come work with me.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Magnum

I spent three years tied up on a short chain without any shelter. People would drive by my owner’s house and see me forced to be outside in the rain, snow, and heat, day in and day out.

My horrible living conditions ended the day I came to my new home at Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary. Now I have a nice cozy kennel and only go outside when I want to. And when I go into a play-yard, or into the huge exercise yard that has a pond, I get to run around as fast and as far as I want! I can’t tell you what a freeing experience that is!!

When I first came to Mackenzie’s I didn’t know what to expect. I’d only ever known my yard, so I was wary of everything and everyone. However it didn’t take me long to realize what an amazing place this is. I’ve grown to trust the people closest to me, and I’ve even learned basic obedience. And although I’m still wary of strangers, every day I’m learning to trust a little more. Please consider being my sponsor.

Kane

When I was a puppy, no one taught me what I should and shouldn’t do. It was really hard to be a good boy when I couldn’t figure out what was expected of me. Because of this, I tried to figure things out on my own—it was all very confusing and frustrating. And since I’m highly intelligent (that’s what everyone tells me), I started getting into all sorts of trouble.

Luckily at Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary I’m finally learning all the valuable skills I wasn’t taught earlier…like how to take treats nicely, not to guard my food, basic obedience, walking nicely on a leash, not biting and jumping up on people when I get excited…

But it’s not all work and no play. I love playing fetch, and if I can do that in the water, it’s even better! And honestly, I like learning how to be a gentleman—it gives me more opportunities to meet friendly adults, and to someday find my Forever Home. I’d like a home where I can be the only dog—that way I can have my human parent’s full attention when I show-off all the great things I’ve learned! Please consider being my sponsor.

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

Looking for a handsome, older gentleman to share your space? Let us introduce you to Eli! Eli is a 10 year old mixed-breed (Scotty, Poodle, Schnauzer??) senior who is looking for his perfect retirement home. He would be a great companion for someone who just wants a little buddy to hang out with. Eli enjoys being petted (he’ll nose your hand if you stop too soon!), car rides, meandering walks, extra yummy treats (he’s got a refined palate!) and following his favorite person all around the house. On the flip side, he’s not so fond of being picked up, other “in your face” dogs or cats or sharing his treats with other animals.

Eli is currently living peacefully with a very laid-back dog and quiet cats but he would also be fine as an “only” dog. He crates well when he needs to be crated and has no accidents in the house when he is allowed outside every few hours. He’s quite tolerant of having his face groomed but isn’t as excited about pedicures. Eli hasn’t’ shown much interest in toys but he does sometimes get silly and “stomp” his front feet. It is so stinkin’ cute!

Because Eli is a senior in our “Golden Paws” program, we did pretty extensive bloodwork and exams on him. His bloodwork looks very good but he does have a pronounced heart murmur that we will happily explain to h is new family. He is not showing signs that the murmur is slowing him down but his new family will want to follow up regularly with a veterinarian to keep him feeling his best. Eli recently had his teeth cleaned so he has a pearly-white
smile and fresh breath to boot!

For the right family, Eli will be a great match. If you think YOUR house may be Eli’s next bachelor pad and you’re interested in meeting him, please take a few minutes to fill out an adoption application at vickyspetconnection.org and a volunteer will be in touch. Eli’s adoption fee will be $75.

Love boats? Love the Great Lakes? Well, how about a cat that just happens to have an “anchor” on his back? Maybe it’s just us but we think that this handsome guy has a white “anchor” on his back and, frankly, seems kind of proud of it! Anchor is a fun, friendly and great kitty and would make a cool companion. He’s probably around 3 years old (which isn’t old at all for a cat!) and we can’t wait to match him up to a great “captain”!
