Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

My name is Lance. I am a GSD mix. My D.O.B. is 6/28/16. I am around 55 lbs. I am a dog that needs an adopter with GSD experience. I am a mix, but seem to exhibit a lot of GSD traits. I am highly intelligent. I know so many commands and have completed training courses by my previous owners. I lived with a teenage girl and loved her very much. I love to play, and like tennis balls. I need a family with lots of structure and that like walks and exercise and lots of play in the back yard. I like to just hang out with the adoption coordinator in the office to.

My name is Bismarck. My Birthday is: 09-14-2018. I am still really a youngster. I would be best with older kids, as I tend to jump on kids if they get to rambunctious. I am super smart as I know sit, stay, down and come and I will give you my paw. I love tug toys and will engage in play with you. Best not to get me too riled up though. I was found running as a stray before I came to Mackenzie’s. I need special pills for my skin, as I may have some skin allergies. Also special food. I rode great in the van.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Jig is an 80 lb. shepherd mix who made the trip to Michigan from Humane Society of the Delta in Arkansas. He is a majestic boy, a gentle giant and great with humans of all shapes and sizes. He is a bit of an introvert and likes lots of alone time throughout the day. That all changes when it’s time to go for a walk — he gets SO excited and will jump up as soon as you make a move for your coat. And jump is not an exaggeration, he really gets some air!

Jig loves all the interesting sights and sounds outside and sprints to find the source when he smells something interesting. Although he enjoys being introduced to new people, he is not a fan of most dogs he meets while out and about, and shows his fearfulness by barking at them.

Jig can’t get enough of digging treats out of his snuffle mat. It’s one of his favorite things to do. Every now and then he gets in the mood to play and when he does, he’s all in! Some of his favorite things to do are playing tug of war, chasing balls, and trying to catch treats in the air.

Jig is heartworm positive and will have his first treatment at the end of January, and will need a family who will support him through his second treatment at the end of February. Costs for the treatments are paid for by Hearts of Hope.

Jig is a super sweet boy who you can’t help but love! He is neutered, chipped and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $250.

Mr. Chips is a 12 year old miniature schnauzer boy who likes to eat, go for walks, and of course sleep. He Is vocal around feeding time to make sure I don’t forget him! He is blind in one eye and has limited vision in the other. This does not stop him from enjoying himself and getting around. If taken outside on a consistent basis he may not have accidents inside but because of his age, this is not unusual. This may increase as he gets older as well. He loves to sleep beside you but it is also independent and likes to explore. Mr Chips needs a loving person to appreciate him and love him for the time he has remaining. He will bring you joy, gratitude, and his love in return. His adoption fee is $175.

Holliday’s Exotic Avian Rescue Team

HEART specializes in rehoming birds when all other alternatives have been considered. Based in Lowell, birds are fostered primarily in Lowell or White Pigeon. Here are their pets of the week.

Pepper is a female double yellow Amazon who is wild caught. She’s estimated at least 40. She is looking for a retirement home where she can just relax and be a bird with no expectations. She is like a grouchy old lady but I’m sure it would just take finding her person to make her open up. She does have arthritis so she will require veterinarian care at least once yearly. The best home for her would be someone who has access to an avian vet and who has no high expectations.

Andy is a female Red-Lored Amazon. She is older(28) and is looking for her forever retirement home. Andy came to us with a severely over-grown beak and is still getting corrective shapings from our Avian Vet. Andy also has arthritis and may eventually need to be on some pain meds in the future for it. She does have cataracts in both eyes, she can still see but some days are better than others. Aside from old age, she is very sweet to the person she likes and chooses. She enjoys to sit with her person and just watch TV or hang out. Andy can be loud and she can be aggressive to others once she has bonded to her person. The right home would be one that has access to an avian vet regularly to continue shaping her beak and one that will allow her to live out the rest of her life without high expectations.

Andy does have a special cage requirement that is to be met!
