Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Mr. Hercules is still a young pup at heart. This happy go lucky boy has a real love of life, and all it entails. He truly is a “people dog.” The location doesn’t matter; as long as he’s with his pack, he’s one happy guy. Herc would thrive in a home with an active family that can help him put his young pup energy to good use. Hercules is hard at work perfecting his basic manners and walking skills at MAS, and a home that can continue his learning would be great for him. Once he gets those down, he will be an absolute show stopper.

Hercules has had seizures in the past, and they are currently being treated with medication.

Hercules 4

My name is Bismarck. My Birthday is: 09-14-2018. I am still really a youngster. I would be best with older kids, as I tend to jump on kids if they get to rambunctious. I am super smart as I know sit, stay, down and come and I will give you my paw. I love tug toys and will engage in play with you. I am on special pills and food for my skin, as I came to Mackenzie’s with a skin infection & food allergies. I lost a great deal of hair but I’m growing it back now, so that feels great!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Ryder is an approximate 1 year old, 33 lb Boston terrier mix that comes all the way from Arkansas to find his forever home. He is a lover of playing fetch, sun bathing, eating sticks, and running zoomies. He is very much a young pup still and has lots of energy: therefore, he would love his forever family to take him on long walks or even to a dog park to play with other young, lively pups to get his energy out. When it’s time to calm down, he enjoys wrapping himself in a nice soft blanket. It is recommended he find a home with a fenced in yard. He loves people! Older children would be best. He is such a handsome young boy and can’t wait to find his fur ever family! He will be neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines prior to going to his new home. His adoption fee is $250.

Marley is a 25 pound, 7 month old Lab/Border Collie Mix who came to our rescue all the way from Arkansas. She loves going for walks, car rides, cheese in a can (and out of the can), playing fetch, playing with her toys, sunbathing, cuddles, kisses and the first few seasons of Gossip Girl. She is house trained and crate trained, and she is starting to learn loose leash walking and basic commands. Marley loves other dogs, and she would prefer a home with older children. She will need a fenced in yard, and she would love to take Puppy Classes with her new humans. She is very smart, and she loves to learn new things. Marley is spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots.  Her adoption fee is $300. Holliday’s Exotic Avian Rescue Team

HEART specializes in rehoming birds when all other alternatives have been considered. Based in Lowell, birds are fostered primarily in Lowell or White Pigeon. Here are their pets of the week.

Lacy is a 18-year-old DNA verified female Bare Eye cockatoo. She came from another rescue and communicated using her beak so we worked through that and I feel she is ready to a home that is willing to continue positive reinforcement training. She still struggles with the concept of stepping up but with continued training I don’t feel like it will be very difficult. She is mainly indifferent to other birds, so while she does not crave a intimate relationship yet with another bird it would definitely be a plus if there were others in the home. She is a more independent cockatoo which is why she is available to go by herself and will not be overly demanding of her person, unlike umbrellas. She has a large wing span and requires a cage at the very least 45 inches long, a 5 x 3 would be a great size cage and they are readily available on Amazon for about $600. I also have a relationship with a cage company so no matter what we can easily get her an appropriate size cage. Her adoption fee is $600 and that includes a one year online membership to Level 1 and the Parrot Project thru the Animal Behavior Center, which will provide you with all the tools you need to continue her training. If you think you would be a good fit or are interested in being considered for adoption, please fill out our adoption application.
