Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Sam is a wicked smart and very handsome border collie mix. His D.O.B. is 5/17/12. He loves to play fetch – tennis balls are his favorite – He really enjoys running and playing outside, whether it’s taking a walk or taking a dip in the pond. He’s an independent boy, but does likes to be with his friends at Mackenzie’s. Sam can also be relaxed when hanging out in the office with the adoption coordinator. He really doesn’t need to be fussed over, just happy to hang out with you. He will not be good with small children, an adult family would be best. He is not a big fan of other dogs, although he can walk by them.

Akira is a beautiful, Catahoula Mix. Her D.O.B. is 2-28-19. She is extremely smart and would excel in an obedience class, which would also help create a bond with her person. She does have an independent personality but loves to play with people and is very vocal when doing so, she can be quite comical. Akira has so much potential, and with the right fit, she is going to grow into a great companion. At her last rescue Akira was in a 6-dog play group. She seems to be a little more selective with her friends at MAS. She did not do well on her cat intro, so cannot go to a home with cats. Older children would be best for her as well due to her energy level.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

This goofy pup with the mischievous smile and the happiest personality is Maddox! Maddox is an 8 month old Lab/Hound mix who gives the best hugs and is always ready for an adventure. He is crate trained, house trained, and starting to learn loose leash walking and basic commands. Maddox does very well with other dogs. He would prefer a home with older kids, and he would love to go to puppy classes with his new humans. He is a very affectionate and very lovable pup; he brings so much happiness to whatever environment he’s in. Maddox is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. His adoption fee is $275. To adopt Maddox apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application

Beepster is ridiculously adorable. She’s a 20 pound, 4 month old Beagle Mix with unique S’More coloring and the sweetest, tiny face. She’s doing a fantastic job with her crate training and house training, and she loves dogs and humans of all ages. She’s not a particularly big fan of cats – mainly because she thinks they’re snooty and they talk about her behind her back. Beepster is so much fun to be around, and she’s very outgoing. Also she loves peanut butter – but not the way most people love peanut butter. She loves peanut butter the way Cookie Monster loves cookies – but in a much less creepy way. Also, she’s a good listener; with those ears she can listen for hours, and stare longingly into her human’s soul – and make it all better. Beepster is spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots. Her adoption fee is $350. To adopt her and her ears apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application

Holliday’s Exotic Avian Rescue Team

HEART specializes in rehoming birds when all other alternatives have been considered. Based in Lowell, birds are fostered primarily in Lowell or White Pigeon. Here are their pets of the week.

Ruthie is a adorable G-2 (goffin cockatoo) that is 19 years young. She currently lives in a aviary with four others but has not developed a friendship specifically with any of them. She seems to prefer men but women can win her over. I feel she would do well with other birds in the home, preferably another goffin.

We follow a wing spam study to find appropriate cage sizes and in her case the average wing size is 26 1/2 inches so the bare minimum size for a cage would be 40 inches long but a larger cage would be beneficial as long as the bar spacing was appropriate.

I do have a relationship with a wonderful cage company if you need to purchase one new.

Her adoption fee is $500. We try to set up our new bird owners the best we can so $250 of your adoption fee is used to purchase you a one year membership in Level One and the Parrot Project through the Animal Behavioral Center. This membership give you the tools needed to establish a relationship, target training, learning how to prevent negative behaviors like screaming and biting(which can be a real challenge with cockatoos). It also provides you with a community of supportive knowledgable bird owners led by Lara Joseph.

If you think you would be a good fit or are interested in being considered for adoption, please fill out our adoption application.
