Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Boooooooooooo is my name, did I scare you? I really am the sweetest and kindest dog ever. Not scary at all! I lived with other dogs, and have made a couple of dog friends, when I am introduced properly. I did not do well on my cat intro, so no cats for me!

One of my favorite activities at MAS is helping the staff in the kitchen. Plenty of snacks, plus, I get to greet and mingle with everyone who passes through! Lots of attention and love for me. I need to perfect my manners a bit, so older kids might be best for me right now. With some time and patience, I am confident that I could be a perfect gentleman!

Are you looking for a tall, dark, and handsome companion? How about a smart, devoted, and active playmate? Well, that’s me! I do prefer all your cuddles and attention to myself, so I need a home without other dogs or cats. Older kids are better equipped to handle my excitement and zest for life. I love long walks, preferably on a more remote trail. So, strap on your hiking boots and let’s go on an adventure together!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Meet Max! This handsome bully mix found a great home in 2020, but he came back into our care after losing his adopted dad in 2021. Originally from Tennessee, Max traveled to Michigan with his brother at just 8 weeks old! This copper-colored stunner weighs in at 45 pounds and is about a year and a half old. High energy and intelligent, Max is eager to please and very food motivated. He’s definitely a ‘lady’s man’ who falls in love with women and loves a good snuggle.

Max enjoys playing with his foster sister, snacking on fresh veggies, and finding the perfect stick for fetch. Partially because he has experienced so many changes in his life, Max is taking medication to help with anxiety. He would thrive in a patient adult-only home with a fenced in yard to explore. A great match would be committed to giving him the decompression time he needs and positive reinforcement training. Max could do wonderfully with a biker or runner who is excited to gently introduce him to this new activity. Right now, Max loves a good walk during peaceful times in the neighborhood but especially out in nature. He has great recall, knows basic obedience, and even practices with his muzzle. He has met with our local Humane Society trainer and they are excited to continue their work with him and his new family!

Max can be selective about his dog friends but loves to have a playmate. He would do best in a home with confident dog who enjoys or ignores his energetic antics. He is curious and interested in kitty friends but needs help learning good boundaries during play.

We know that special family is out there for Max! Could you be his second chance at a forever family? Max is fully vetted (neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped). His adoption fee is $250, and you can apply to adopt him at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application

Ginger is a 60 pound, 2 year old Staffy Mix who came to our Rescue all the way from Louisiana. She is incredibly lovable, affectionate and so so goofy !! Ginger is house trained, crate trained, and she does very well with cats, dogs, and humans of all ages. She is super smart and loves to learn new things; she knows many basic commands and she walks very well on a leash. She would do best in an active home that has a fenced in yard, a Hulu subscription, many different types of cheeses, and humans that love goofy, lovable, lap dogs. Ginger is spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots.  Her adoption fee is $250. Holliday’s Exotic Avian Rescue Team

HEART specializes in rehoming birds when all other alternatives have been considered. Based in Lowell, birds are fostered primarily in Lowell or White Pigeon. Here are their pets of the week.

Fred is a 28 year old greenwing macaw and was returned to the rescue last month as his adoptive home couldn’t make it work. Fred enjoys being mostly independent, he doesn’t like to be pet but LOVES to dance with anyone. He will step up, he takes treats gently. He’s not very loud for a macaw(that can change) just makes noises often. He absolutely loves to be out all day rather than in his cage, he can be cage aggressive. Fred needs to be the center of someone’s world, he can get jealous of other macaws. He does need to be on probiotics and apple cider vinegar for the remainder of his life due to having Clostridium. To adopt Fred you are REQUIRED to have a cage that is 1 1/2 times his wingspan. Included, and is required, in his adoption fee is a one year subscription to the parrot project/level one through the animal behavioral center. This group provides you training tools to overcome any hurdle you may face as a macaw owner, which sets both you and Fred up for success. If you think you would be a good match for Fred, fill out our adoption application to get started! Fred is NOT for a first time owner, he needs someone who is up to the challenge and won’t give up on him.

Adoption Fee: $850
