The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

I am so full of energy and excitement for life now that I have had a second chance at finding safe and loving home. I came to MAS heartworm positive, the amazing staff gave me the treatment I needed and I am now free from any heartworms! Yey! I had some knee repair work done recently as well, and I am on some activity restrictions. It has been a challenge because I am so ready to take on new adventures and live every day to the fullest! I would be happiest as the only pet in my new home. I just prefer to be the center of attention for my new family. And how could I not be? I am such a goofball. So much so, that sometimes my enthusiasm is too much for small kids. I have a hard time remembering my size. I am looking for a forever home that can find a walking route that is more secluded, where we can have one-on-one time to explore together. I get a bit distracted when I see other dogs, I forget that it isn’t polite to stop and stare….I have been practicing with the staff and volunteers at MAS and have made some progress. I am not always go-go-go though. I do like to wind down and relax too. I am a sweetheart, I love to give kisses and get attention from people. If you’d like to be my adventure buddy, submit an adoption application to get the ball rolling!

Sam is a wicked smart and very handsome border collie mix. He loves to play fetch, especially with tennis balls, and loves being active. He’s a bit of an independent guy but adores his friends at Mackenzie’s. He doesn’t like to be fussed over but is more than happy just to hang out with you. Sam will not be a good fit with small children. Although he can walk near other dogs, he is not a big fan of them, so he will need a home without them.
Despite coming to Mackenzie’s from a bad situation, Sam has persevered and become an exceptional dog that deserves a loving forever home. He is an amazing dog that has been waiting to meet his match, could it be you?

If you’re looking for a laid back, independent dog to hang out with, then is the dog for you! If you are interested in adopting Sam, please apply today!Sam-I-Am 1

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Amber is a 75 pound, 3 year old GSD Mix who came to our Rescue from our good friends at Detroit Animal Care and Control. Her foster Mama describes her as a big beautiful doof, and what she lacks in gracefulness she makes up for in sweetness. Amber can take a moment to warm up to new people, but when she does she is giving hugs and kisses and making life long friends. She loves car rides, movies with Tom Hardy, and occasional zoomies – followed by naps. She is house trained and crate trained, and she does very well with kids and other dogs. She will need a 52 inch crate when she’s created due to her size. Amber is currently undergoing heart worm treatment and will need a supportive, relaxed environment to help her complete this treatment. Her care is being arranged with a local veterinary practice. Amber is spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots. Her adoption fee is $250. Meet Elsa, a heeler mix who is as smart as she is pretty, aged 14 weeks old. This girl is active but also likes to stop for a snuggle. She has done well with children and is respectful of other dogs, but seems to be more into people, so she might do well as a single dog. Some of her favorite activities include chewing on her toys, playing with her litter mate, and sitting on your lap soaking up some love. She makes excellent eye contact and is a quick learner. She might enjoy activities like agility classes or scent work! Elsa is high energy and would do best with an active family that has herding breed experience. Homes with shared-wall living (apartment/townhome/duplex) would not be ideal for her as she can be vocal at times. A fenced yard would be ideal to help burn off some of her energy! Elsa’s family should be planning on keeping her mentally and physically stimulated like any working breed, and training classes would be even better. She’s a smart cookie with a willingness to learn! Elsa is finishing up with her boosters, spayed, microchipped and her adoption fee is $300.
