The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Lance is a handsome boy. He can’t quite seem to get the tip of his ear to stand straight but he doesn’t let that get to him. Lance can be very calm and stoic until suddenly that calm breaks and his playful side bursts through. He loves to run as fast as he can, and he especially loves water. He’s a verbal player which makes him sound more intimidating than he actually is. He is super smart and knows many commands. He even completed training courses with his previous owners. Since he is a little more mature than some, he is quite confident and independent but he’s not too proud to try to sit on your lap and cuddle.

He is also great with children. He lived with a teenage girl before and loved her very much. He also has been introduced to a 10-year-old child and was very respectful. He wanted attention and listened to commands when given. He loves toys, especially tennis balls, but can be a little hard on them so be sure to stock up!

If Lance sounds like the dog for you, please fill out an application!

My D.O.B. is 6/28/16. I am around 55 lbs.

DaVinci is as sweet and smart as they come! While he can be quite excitable at the Sanctuary, once he gets away from the kennel is a real gem. He was fostered for quite a long time in a home with dogs and one cat and became the picture-perfect companion. He was relaxed and well-mannered and simply lived for snuggles and love. DaVinci thrived in his foster home with other dogs, they bolstered his confidence. He needs a person willing to give him the time he needs to decompress and establish a healthy, positive relationship. He can be timid at first when meeting new people, but it doesn’t take long for him to warm up. In a calm environment, his true colors shine brightly, and he becomes the loving cuddle bug he was always meant to be. He just needs to be given the chance to reach his full potential. DaVinci also loves going for care rides and has even had an exciting trip to the salon with his favorite volunteer.

DaVinci would do best in a home with other dogs. As he can be fearful/shy he needs a home without small children. DaVinci is truly a dog that has a lot of potential and sadly doesn’t flourish in a hectic kennel environment. If you think you can provide him with the nice, calm home environment he needs, please apply today!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue looks to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Looking for a wonder dog? A happy go lucky pup that loves everything and anything? That would be great with cats, other dogs, and all ages of kids? A dog you can take anywhere?   Meet Charlie. Charlie is a very special, once in a lifetime pup (although his foster mom is a little biased). He had a rough go in his first three years of life, but he never once let anything dampen his spirit. Ending up at Detroit Animal Care Control after getting hit by a car, Charlie couldn’t even walk upon intake but he didn’t let that slow him down. Charlie scooted around, happy as a clam, and slowly regained full use of his back legs, although he does still walk a little like a cowboy.  (It only adds to his charm, trust us.)  Charlie loves everyone he meets, but he especially loves tennis balls and toys of all sizes and shapes. Even though he weighs a whopping 70 pounds, he’s pretty sure he was meant to be a lap dog. He loves snuggling under blankets and sleeping in with his head next to yours on a pillow. He is heartworm negative, neutered, current on his vaccines, and ready to start his next adventure!  His adoption fee is $250 and you can apply to adopt this gentleman at www.rescueofhope.com/adopt/

How can you say no to this squishy face? Dieter is a 1 year old pure breed Akita, and loves to flaunt it! He’s a very sweet boy with our two year old daughter, and loves to play with his doggy companions! He’s still curious about cats, but hasn’t chased them. Dieter loves being outside, and would love a family who continues his training, and keeps letting him explore! Will that be you? His is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $300.
