Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process. And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats, dogs, or farm animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

My name is Kenya! I’m a pretty shy gal, but I’m starting to open up with each day that I’m here at MAS. Before coming to MAS, I hadn’t ventured much beyond my small little world, so there’s a ton of new people, places and things for me to experience! Fortunately, all the staff and volunteers here are so thoughtful and caring, and have been willing to take it slow and go at my pace. I would like a quieter home, with patient adopters, who could slowly introduce me to the world. Really small children would not be a good fit for me.

I’m Cole! I’m an Akita Mix and was born 5/5/17. Deep down, I’m a real sweet guy, but new people and new situations make me super nervous. Once I’ve warmed up to someone I’m happy to be around them, but for some people it might take a little while. I am best without young children running around. Makes me nervous. I just want a nice quiet home, where I can slowly come out of my shell. If you had time to come out and meet me on several different occasions, that would be best for me as well.

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

This week we are featuring some of our torties. Torties are otherwise known as Tortiseshell cats. Tortoiseshell is a cat coat coloring named for its similarity to tortoiseshell material. Like calicos, tortoiseshell cats are almost exclusively female. Male tortoiseshells are rare and are usually sterile.

Also called torties for short, tortoiseshell cats combine two colors other than white, either closely mixed or in larger patches. The colors are often described as red and black, but the “red” patches can instead be orange, yellow, or cream, and the “black” can instead be chocolate, grey, tabby, or blue.

Hi, I’m Myriah! I was born in 2012 (approx.) and came to Carol’s Ferals in the Spring of 2018. I’m a very sweet girl, and I like a quiet space so I’m hoping that my home will be calming and relaxing for me. I will come and get pets and attention, but I can be spooked easily if things get too hectic. I have found out that laps are great places for getting attention. I am FIV+, but I can live very well with other cats that are not.

Hi, I’m Brienne. I was born in 2016 (approx) and came to Carol’s Ferals in May 2018. I’m pretty shy right now, but with some love and TLC I will come out of my shell!

Hi, I’m Beta. I came to Carol’s in September 2017 after being rescued from the streets of Grand Rapids through a TNR community project. I’m gorgeous, but I hide sometimes because I’m a little shy. However I’m very sweet and loving once I warm up to someone! I’m looking for a loving, quiet home where I can continue coming out of my shell!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Lucy is 2 years old and was found living on the street in Beirut missing her front leg. We suspect she was hit by a car and had surgery to amputate the leg as it healed really well. She was so friendly and loved attention from people so our friends at Animals Lebanon had to rescue her. She was definitely someone’s dog before living on the street. Having three legs doesn’t bother Lucy one bit! She is house-trained and crate trained. She loves toys and bones. She will throw her toys to entertain herself. Lucy loves to play with her dog friends, too. We are told she’s good with cats, but she hasn’t been living with them here. Lucy is a mixed breed for sure, but looks husky and shepherd and is about 50-60 lbs. She is a happy-go-lucky girl, but will talk back to other dogs who growl at her…like a Husky. Lucy is already spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm tested negative. Her adoption fee is only $200. Please apply at rescueofhope.com. Thanks!

Penny is a 5 month old pit mix. She was sadly not in the best of conditions before she was rescued but she is sure happy now! She has a little way to go before she is fully healed. Her fur siblings and foster family are helping her along the way. She loves the company of other dogs and could play all day. If no one is up for playing Penny is happy to snuggle up to you or find a toy to chew on. The kennel is a safe place for Penny and she never protests a temporary stay there. Because of Penny’s history she is still learning the basics and is looking for a home that will work with her on all the puppy lessons. If you’re looking for a loyal companion and you’re eager to teach a pup all she needs to know, Penny is your gal. The perfect home ideally has a fur sibling to help show her the ropes and is willing to attend puppy class with her. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her shots. Her adoption fee is $300. To meet this little sweetheart apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application/
