Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process. And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats, dogs, or farm animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

For additional information about each organization visit their websites or read our intro article to Furry Friday!  The following pet profiles are provided by each rescue.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

My name is Sidney! I’m a 5 year old lab mix – my DOB is 4/10/2013. As you can see from my picture, I’m a really happy girl! Even though I love treats and toys, nothing makes me happier than hanging out with my favorite people.

I’m content to lead a low key lifestyle, and would love a family that would be up for going for nice walks and hikes. Even though I’m no longer a puppy, I still have some energy to burn, but some regular exercise should do the trick! I’m up for adventures, and when it comes to riding in the car, my manners are impeccable (if I do say so myself). I’m a new arrival here, so the staff at Mackenzie’s are still learning more about what I like and what things I don’t care for much. Come see me soon!

Willow is one of the sweetest and most loving dogs here at Mackenzie’s. She’s happy to play a little fetch, but really loves taking walks and snuggling up with her people. Willow doesn’t ask for much – a cozy bed and some love would do the trick. She’s done well meeting cats here at MAS, but would prefer she finds a home where she’s the only dog. She’s a terrific cuddler, has the most adorable wiggle, and walks beautifully on leash. If you’re looking for a pal that likes leisurely strolls in the sunshine and will be a devoted partner through your next Netflix binge, she just might be your girl!

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

Check out this sexy senior! This is Seymour and this handsome guy is loving his “golden years”. At 9-10 years of age, Seymour is totally deserving of a little spoiling and relaxation and he’s embracing life with a good attitude and lots of spunk! If he were human, he’d be golfing and learning to salsa dance in a retirement village in Florida but he’s a dog so he enjoys spending his days hanging out at home, going for car rides and exploring the neighborhood on walks. Seymour is enjoying his foster home and is a good and polite companion to the other dog there. He enjoys meeting nice people and snuggling on the couch. He enjoys adventures but he also likes hanging out in the yard while you putter in the garden or read a good book. Seymour is not a fan of cats, though, so his new home will need to be feline-free.  If you are looking for a nice companion, Seymour is a happy guy with lots to offer!

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi, I’m Beta. I came to Carol’s in September 2017 after being rescued from the streets of Grand Rapids through a TNR community project. I’m gorgeous, but I hide sometimes because I’m a little shy. However I’m very sweet and loving once I warm up to someone! I’m looking for a loving, quiet home where I can continue coming out of my shell!

Hi, I’m Beauty. I came to Carol’s Ferals in May 2017 after I was turned in to the Kent County Animal Shelter. I’m shy, so the volunteers have worked with me. I have come out of my shell quite a bit, I am enjoying interacting with people now and love getting pets.  I would probably be happier with a quiet home.

Hi, I’m Myriah! I was born in 2012 (approx.) and came to Carol’s Ferals in the Spring of 2018. I’m a very sweet girl, and I like a quiet space so I’m hoping that my home will be calming and relaxing for me. I will come and get pets and attention, but I can be spooked easily if things get too hectic. I am FIV+, but I can live very well with other cats that are not.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Bane is a one year old Belgian Malinois and he is a brilliant and goofy boy. Bane is potty-trained and knows sit, stay, come, lay down, roll over, shake, touch, and is constantly learning new tricks! Bane loves children and other dogs of all sizes, however he does have hip dysplasia so he can’t have playmates with too much energy since he wears his hips out quickly. Bane will require a home that can provide him with a steel kennel indoors for when they aren’t home. He is able to break out of crates and chain link kennels and is still at an age where he can be destructive when unsupervised. Bane needs a lot of mental stimulation and can become frustrated if he feels he is not learning and exercising his brain enough. The only thing Bane loves as much as learning new tricks is cuddling. Bane needs a lot of interaction from his people and will do best with owners that have a willingness to continue teaching him self-control and where to direct his energy appropriately. His ideal owner will be someone that sincerely enjoys playing brain games with him and finding new tricks to teach him. He is neutered and UTD on vaccines and his adoption fee is $250.

Are you looking for an active ball of love and fun? Well, meet Sid! He is a brilliant pup who loves to learn and lives to please. He loves going for walks and playing with toys, but above all he loves to learn new things. He’s very treat motivated and will do just about anything for a treat. Once he’s tired he’s the best snuggle buddy. Sid is working hard on house training and is crate trained. He loves playing with other dogs who also love to play. He is good with cats, but he needs to be reminded sometimes that they don’t want to play with him.
