Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

I’m Abe! My D.O.B. is 9/25/15. I am a mastiff mix, and large and in charge. I was in a home, with an owner who was not as kind, so I need a very loving and caring home. I love walks and playing, (fetch is my favorite), and have done well with other dogs I meet. I’m a big guy with a big appetite. Just things to keep in mind when adopting me. Because of my past, I will do best in a home with adults who just want a buddy. Small kids aren’t really my cup of tea.

My name is George! I’m handsome hound mix and just turned a year old (my DOB is 11/25/17). Before finding my way to Mackenzie’s, I was taken into another shelter after I was found on the run as a stray.

Now that I’m here, the staff and volunteers are helping me learn commands and work on my manners as I’m your typical one year old pup! Because of this, I might be best with older kids for now. In typical hound fashion, I can be found following my nose and sniffing out all sorts of new things. I’m up for adventures galore and have plenty of energy to burn, so if you’re looking for a pal to hit the trails with for years to come, I could be your guy!

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

Hold onto your heart because THIS girl is about to capture it! This is Daisy and she is a super sweet kitty who came to us with two kittens in tow. She is a wonderful, loving mother and is going to make an amazing companion! She is only around 2 years old so she is quite young and still silly and playful! She can be adopted singly or maybe with one of her kittens if you have space?

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Lucky Louie is a 12 year old Chi Mix who loves to smile. Big ears and a goofy, toothy grin are his trademarks. He is quite a character. This sweet boy came to our rescue when his owner passed away. Louie is very laid back and he would prefer to be the only pet in a quiet home. He is super easy to take care of; Louie is crate trained, house trained and he spends 23 and a half hours sleeping each day. During that half hour he is very affectionate and very sweet. Louie is chipped, up to date on his vetting, and he is patiently waiting for his perfect home. Come meet this sweet pup!!  He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. His adoption fee is $150. Apply to adopt here: https://rescueofhope.com/adoption-application/

Noah came into the shelter last summer weighing in at only 56lbs. Now he’s at a healthy 106lbs! He also was diagnosed back in November after having a MRI performed with severe stenosis in his upper neck. This caused him to be very unbalanced and had difficulty with common tasks such maneuvering stairs and even going for a walk which would cause his foot to drag and bleed. Without the recommended surgery, he was likely to become paralyzed at any time.

So Hearts of Hope did what was necessary and raised the funds needed to give Noah the best quality of life possible! Thanks to HOH efforts and all of you, his donators, Noah went in for surgery mid December. He’s amazed us all with his recovery, making so much progress and ability to continue to be the happy sweet boy he’s always been. With that being said, although his surgery was a success, the vet recommends Noah to remain a low impact dog the rest of his life to prevent regression or a possible second surgery. This means he can still play and go for short walks, but he will never be a runner, jumper, or a rough house playstyle type of dog.

Noah will be the perfect fit for a family looking for a large dog who loves to be loved. He’s got an amazing personality and will add so much fun and laughter to anyone who is lucky enough to adopt him! He will do best with another calm dog or as an only dog. Although he is interested in cats, he has not chased or shown any aggression to the ones in our household.  He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $200.
