The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process. And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats, dogs, or farm animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

My name is Moon! I’m a five-year old Alaskan Malamute mix. I’m so happy and fortunate I found my way to Mackenzie’s, as I found out I had heart worm last fall. At MAS, I’ve gone through the treatment, and I’m on the home stretch as far as my activity restrictions go. I can’t wait!

Even though I’m not the youngest pup around anymore, as a Malamute mix, I still have a lot of energy, and I’m much happier when I have a job to do! I’d love an active family, and one that wants to help me work on learning some commands and my walk training. I love walks – nothing better than exploring and sniffing everything out! With my higher energy level and bigger size, I might be best with older kids for now. Because of my heart worm restrictions, I haven’t been able to make any new canine companions here yet, but once I’m given the all clear, the staff at MAS will update my info!

Scarlet is a beautiful Rottweiler. She is around 81 lbs. Her D.O.B. is 4/29/16. She was raised in a home with small children, dogs, and cats. She is a lover. When she first came to MAS she needed two cruciate surgeries, and is finally nearing the end of her recovery!

While Scarlet loves walks, treats, car rides (everything, really), her favorite thing to do is hang out with her people. Even though she definitely has a lazy side, she’d love a family that wants to get out and enjoy those Michigan spring and summer days outside.

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

Seriously, what can we say about this guy that his photo hasn’t already said? This is Valentino and he looks like he belong on a cat calendar! He’s an adult kitty of around 3 years so he’s young enough to still get into a little naughtiness but old enough to know better! He’s an active and intelligent cat so he would do best in a bigger space (not a small apartment) so he has lots to explore. Valentino would do best with an experienced cat owner since he does sometimes get over-stimulated and love-nip. For this reason you would do best in a house without small children who don’t understand this tendency. He does best when given plenty of stimulating play with lasers and fishing pole toys. He is a super affectionate guy who wants to be near you as often as possible and really seems to want to interact with his people. He’s no wall flower….he wants to be part of the action

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi, I’m Beauty. I came to Carol’s Ferals in May 2017 after I was turned in to the Kent County Animal Shelter. I’m shy, so thankfully I came here where the volunteers have worked with me. It has taken some time, but my friends think that I have to the place, where I’ll be a wonderful addition to a family. I would be best with someone who is willing to give me time to get use to a new home.  I get along well with most cats.

My name is Buttons, and I have been at Carol’s Ferals since October 2017. I’m a shy girl, but when volunteers come in to visit I love getting pets and attention. I would love a quiet home where I could have my own space, but I would probably do fine in a home with another cat. I’m not sure how I would do with dogs or very young children.

Hi, I’m Petunia. I came to Carol’s in September 2017 as the result of a TNR project in the community. I’m a little over a three years old and am ready for my furever home! I’m a little shy, so a quieter home would be best for me.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Darla is a 45 pound, 2 year old Boxer/Terrier mix that came to us from our good friends at Pound Buddies in Muskegon. She is a very happy-go-lucky pup who loves playing and is always smiling ! Darla is a touch shy at first, but when she is comfortable with someone she simply adores them. Darla would prefer a home with another fur friend, she loves her foster dog sibling and it seems to help her settle in nicely. She has also started attending doggie daycare, she loves her buddies !! Darla is the epitome of a companion animal, and wants nothing more than to love and be loved in return. This sweet pup is chipped, up to date on her vetting and ready to meet you!! This Super Sweet Staffy has a smile and a personality that lights up a room !! She is so happy and so full of life, we just adore her. She may have lost a step in her older age, but she makes up for it with spunk and good energy !! Vivian is an 80 pound, 12 year old Staffy who came to our rescue from our good friends at the Ionia County Animal Shelter. Vivian is losing her hearing, so we want to find a home for her that will give her the patience, support and love she deserves. This pup is truly a special soul, and she will definitely change someone’s life in the best possible way. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
