Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats, dogs, or farm animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

For additional information about each organization visit their websites or read our intro article to Furry Friday!

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

My name is Freddie. I am deaf. I know my hand signals for good boy, no, etc. My D.O.B. is 2/21/11. I am super sweet and loving with the staff at MAS. I do however need to warm up to people I do not know. I am deaf and need to build a relationship with you first. I would need to have older kids in the home…possibly teenagers. Lots of high activity and young children may make me nervous. A structured environment. I have had playmates that are other dogs, but need just the right one. Freddie loves car rides and does great in the car. He is okay with cats, but would still recommend safe area’s for the cats, and slowly integrating. Freddie could spook if you walked up on him while he is sleeping, so thinking ahead, and not putting him in scary situations would be best for him. A large yard to run in would be wonderful as well. Freddie has gone into a Pet Smart with volunteers and done well. He has also dressed up as a shark…and tolerated it.

Higbee, is a super smart and cuddly boy. He was born on 11/08/2011. He knows lots of commands and markers. He is very good at walking with you. He loves tennis balls and wants to play with you. He would be best in a home with older kids, and an active family. He cannot have cats in the home, and he may not be the best fit for a kitty. He needs a large yard to run and play in. He loves his family and needs a structured environment and a family that isn’t a pushover.

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

We have kittens.  Come introduce yourself and play with them.

My name is Matilda and I love giving hugs.  When my rescuer found me in a trailer park, I was thin and weak, full of fleas, and had a terrible upper respiratory infection with a touch of pneumonia.  The vet wasn’t sure I’d survive.  For five days, my rescuer took me to the vet for antibiotic shots and breathing treatments.  Luckily, I pulled through and became the most loving cat you could ever want.  I will climb on your lap and hug your neck.  I love being held – just LOVE it.  I get jealous when other cats come around for attention, and swat at them.  If you are looking for a huggable loving cat – preferably the only one so I get all the affection – I’m your girl.

Hi, I’m Izabella and I came all the way from Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon.  My three sisters and I were so scared and hissy in the beginning, they thought we’d never friendly up enough for adoption.  We fooled them!  Two of my sisters have already been adopted, and I’m so outgoing now I am the first to greet people at the door.  I crave lots of petting, although I haven’t progressed far enough yet to become a lap cat or be held.  The volunteers think if the right lap comes around, I may just climb in.  Come and meet me.  No need to speak Lebanese; I have become fluent in English.

I’m Gray, Earl Gray…the cat not the tea.  I am soft, playful, and loving.  I am FIV positive, but I’m okay with it, it shouldn’t scare you from adopting me.  If you are looking for a couch companion and a playmate, come meet me.

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

This exotic beauty is Dixie. She came to us with kittens and was a wonderful mother. Dixie is now looking for a lasting friendship! She is such a sweet girl and totally deserving of some spoiling. How about it?

You can meet Dixie at Critter Cottage in Ada (7205 Thornapple River Drive). Store hours are Tuesday-Thursday from 10-6; Friday-Saturday from 10-3.

This beauty is Olivia and she came to us with a litter of kittens! She did a terrific job as a mom but now its her turn to be spoiled! Olivia is just 2-3 years old and really just a kitten at heart! Just look in those eyes and TRY to refuse this beauty!
