Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process. And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats, dogs, or farm animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

For additional information about each organization visit their websites or read our intro article to Furry Friday!  The following pet profiles are provided by each rescue.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi, my name is “Poe”. My D.O.B is 8/8/14. I LOVE to swim. Swimming and playing fetch are two of my most favorite activities. I don’t really enjoy playing with other dogs, but can be around dogs that won’t get in my face. I can be a little mouthy sometimes, so I would prefer a home without any small kids. I would love to be adopted by a family that is really active and has the time to work on teaching me new commands. Please come see me soon!

Poe, an adoptable Airedale Terrier & Labrador Retriever Mix in Lake Odessa, MI

My name is Sirius! I’m a young Schnauzer Mix. I’m just over a year old (my DOB is 5/2/18), so I’m a pretty high energy kinda guy! I’m always on the move, and would love to find a family that is similar – I think I’d make a great running partner. I’d also do well with a family that wants to work with me on my commands and manners. I pick up on things really quickly and have been told I’m super smart, but need a little work in those areas. I’ve done well on my dog and cat intros here so far, and would be best in a home with older kids because of my size and energy level. Fill out an adoption application and mention me!

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

ELANI (aka Queen) lives up to her name!  She is part of an all-black litter of kittens and she is spectacular! Sometimes she just observes playtime from the top of the cat condo, other times she’s in the thick of it. Elani is content playing on her own too. She will melt in your arms when you rub her ears, kiss her tummy and brush her lovely fur (she has a little spot of white on her tummy). Elani would be great with another kitty or as an only kitty.  She is around 8 weeks of age.

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi, I’m Drax. I am a sweet and friendly boy who likes to play. I am also a big fan of belly rubs. I came from a hoarding situation where there were LOTS of other cats so I am really looking forward to finding my forever home.

Hi, I’m Munin. I am an extremely friendly and talkative boy. I love attention so head scratches and belly rubs are most welcome and sought out!

Hi, I’m Lady Sif. Aren’t I just beautiful? I am a very sweet little gal who loves to be held. Come visit me and I will show you how much of a snuggle bug I can be.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Cody is a special pup looking for a patient family. He is very scared of the world, but we believe that is fair considering he was surrendered to a shelter in Louisiana in the bottom of a trashcan, covered in fleas and infested with parasites. He is getting physically healthier every day, but he relies on his human to take the best care of him and help him adapt to his surroundings. Cody is a 3 year old, 15 pound Corgi mix who loves to be held. He is shy at first, but when he trusts his human, he is so incredibly affectionate it’s heart warming. Cody does well in his crate and is doing fairly well with his house training, but he will definitely need a patient and supportive human to help him continue improving. Cody loves dogs, and would probably prefer a home with a furry friend to help him build his confidence. We aren’t sure about cats, but we are sure a home without smaller children would be necessary. Cody is heartworm positive, but he is progressing nicely in his treatments and if he is adopted before his treatment is complete Hearts of Hope will pay for all of his treatment. This sweet and special soul has been through so much, and he really deserves a wonderful home to give him the love he so desperately craves. Please consider changing this pup’s life. Cody is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. His adoption fee is $200. To adopt Cody apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application

Tiny is a beagle that we think is about 4 years old. Since relocating to Michigan from Louisiana, he has been working on his leash walking, crate training, and learning some commands. He’s really been focused on playing with his doggie foster siblings and taking naps in the sun. He’s made amazing strides learning to trust people, working on his surgical skills by unstuffing toys, and his yard inspector skills by looking for places to sneak out. If you’re looking for someone to sing you a song while you get his dinner, Tiny can’t wait to meet you! Tiny is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on all his vet care. Tiny is currently going through Heartworm Treatment and Hearts of Hope will cover that completely. His adoption fee is $200. To adopt Tiny apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application
