Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Officially, Muhammad Ali is a boxer mix, but the best way to describe him is a social butterfly! Being out and about and meeting new people is one of his absolute favorite things to do. He’s known around Mackenzie’s as a happy go lucky kinda guy; eager to please people and all he really wants to do is spread the love.

He’s also known to be up for any and every adventure. While he’s content to hang out at home by himself, he’d be much happier joining in on the activities of his human friends. He loves car rides (and doesn’t mind if you sing) – just roll down the window a bit and he’s a happy guy. One of our volunteers treated Muhammad Ali to a day on the water, and he rocked the life jacket and enjoyed the ride! Car rides, boat rides, 5K runs, nice long walks (with terrific walking skills!), and a good cuddle at the end of the day…he’s got it all!

My name is Guapa! Guapa is the Spanish word for “beautiful.” When I arrived at MAS, I wasn’t in the best shape medically. I had skin infections and allergies, and because of this, I didn’t look my best! The kind staff at Mackenzie’s saw my potential and picked out that name for me. Before coming to MAS, I had been found as a stray – so I missed out on a lot of medical care and wasn’t able to get all the training and socialization that a young pup needs to thrive.

For a long time, I thought the best way to get attention or show my human friends that I was excited to see them was to jump up. All this attention from the staff and volunteers at MAS was so new to me, and sometimes I’d forget to be polite. After that initial burst of excitement, I really am a sweetheart. Now that I’ve learned how terrific it is to be good and well-mannered and how great it is to please my friends, I work hard every day to put all my skills into practice. Thanks to a lot of love and patience from the staff and volunteers here, I’m ready to find my forever home.

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

This sweet girl is named “Ally” but we should have named her “Shadow” because she wants to follow you everywhere! She is a wonderful kitty who is just around 6 months of age. She’s been getting along great with the other kitties and has several kitten friends if you have room for two new companions!  She is so much more stunning in person so we hope you’ll stop by to visit her!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

We can’t say enough good things about Evander! Evander came from Detroit Animal Control, and as you can see, he’s had a rough life. But don’t let his scars and missing ear fool you, this guy is all heart. He’s a true lover. His soulful, sweet eyes will melt your heart, and if that isn’t enough to make you fall in love, his kisses will do the trick!

We estimate Evander is 4-6 years old. He is excellent with other dogs. (His foster has two small, very opinionated little dogs, and all three get along wonderfully.) However, he would do best in a home without cats as he sometimes likes to chase them. He’s great with older kids and loves walks, snuggles, and belly rubs! Evander is a low-key guy and likes to take it easy, but he is also up for fun and play if you are!

Everyone instantly loves this guy. People on the street comment on his gorgeous coloring and sweet manner. (He even gets random hugs.) Evander is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and ready to be your new best friend! His adoption fee is $200. To adopt Evander apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application/

Jetti is a 2 year old Lab Mix who absolutely loves to play fetch with his humans. A tennis ball and a good arm will keep him entertained for hours !! Jetti has beautiful, expressive brown eyes to go along with his ridiculously cute face. He is crate trained, house trained, and he does great with dogs and kids. This sweet boy is very easy going and always appreciates a big hug. Jetti is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. His adoption fee is $200.
