GRIDCARD Week 34 Recap

Game 68: Ch-Ch-Changes

On Thursday, Purdue had a 31-28 lead and the ball near midfield with under three minutes left but couldn’t hold on against Penn State. Facing 4th-and-6 at the 45, the Boilermakers punted the ball away to the Nittany Lions who engineered an eight-play, eighty-yard drive, capped off by a 10-yard TD pass from Sean Clifford to Keyvone Lee. The Big Ten opener for both teams featured six lead changes, Penn State prevailing 35-31.

On Friday, Indiana beat Illinois 23-20–in another tightly-contested Big Ten opener–this one featuring five lead changes. Ironically, Shaun Shivers scored on a 1-yard dive for the Hoosiers in the closing seconds, this after Indiana had out gained the Fighting Illini 221-32 on the ground. ro

Lots of scoring on the GridCard where Winky (43) put up a larger TallBoy than Go Bucs (40) to claim King of the Mountain. This was Winky’s second KOTM of the year and his first King Kong (73).

The ProGrid Tour was well-represented with six of seven players earning Qualifying Scores: Teunesto (37), MW (36), AK (36), Annabelle (35), dangerzone (33), and Ricco1947 (33). Six other players posted a QS: Offroad (39), JeepCreeper (36), maryalene (34), Rico (34), KaitMac (33), and Barry (32).

GAME 67: New York, New York

Down by three and facing 4th-and-goal from the five, the Jets (-3) would normally have kicked a game-tying field goal and gone to overtime with the Giants (+3). But the new No Preseason Overtime Rule came into play and set the stage for an unlikely cover by the Jets.

After throwing a 29-yard TD pass to Denzil Mims early in the fourth, Mr. August, Chris Streveler connected with Calvin Jackson for the game-winner with 22 seconds left. Jet bettors still had to sweat a PAT and survive a Hail Mary, but in the end, New York beat New York, 31-27.

The Jets late TD made Zeke (39) King of the Mountain by a wide margin. This was Zeke’s third KOTM the year. Seven other players posted Qualifying Scores: Jeep Lover 2 (34), Heart of a Hooligan (33) KDet047 (32), Dano (31), Winky (30), Annabelle (29), and PGT winner MMc (33).
