JuneGrass Festival Brings Bluegrass Music to Lowell Fairgrounds

The twang of music you heard last night from the fairgrounds was the JuneGrass Festival. Now in its 23rd year, the event brings some of the area’s best bluegrass musicians to Lowell for two days of workshops and concerts.

Presented by the West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association, the festival started Friday, June 29, and will offer a full day of music on Saturday, June 30. Last evening featured the following groups:

  • Zellie’s Opry House Band
  • Easy Idle Band
  • Bert Jones Band
  • Steam Powered Bluegrass Band

Bluegrass enthusiasts camped on the fairgrounds and many plan to attend workshops devoted to the guitar, mandolin, banjo and bass on Saturday morning. Then, at 12pm, the music starts up again and runs until 10pm with a supper break during the 5pm hour.

The day will feature two sets from each of the following groups:

  • Calabogie Road
  • Deadwood
  • Out of the Blue
  • New County Grass

Tickets for Saturday are $20 for the entire day or $12 if you arrive after 7pm. If you’d like to spend the night at the fairgrounds after the music is done, it’s $15 to camp for one day.

In addition to the music, there is a 50/50 raffle and vendors selling t-shirts, hand dipped ice cream and more.

While bleachers are available, for the best seating under the tent, bring a low back lawn chair so you can position yourself by the band and near the fans.
