This Weekend in Lowell: LaughFest and Legally Blonde Headline

It’s shaping up to be an entertaining weekend in Lowell. LaughFest is in town, and Lowell High School has a musical performance planned. Plus, LowellArts and the Alto branch of Kent District Library have special events too.

Here are all the details:

LaughFest Comes to Lowell

Gilda’s LaughFest is kicking off this weekend with comedic performances for every age. The annual event, launched in 2011, supports the activities of Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, a resource for families in West Michigan who have been affected by cancer or similar circumstances. Since Lowell has its very own Gilda’s Clubhouse, we get a couple special events scheduled right in town.

First up is Keith Alberstadt who will be performing stand-up comedy at the Grand Volute Ballroom tonight. His set is billed as “clean adult laughs” which means that while his comedy is geared toward the 18+ crowd, there’s nothing in it that should make you blush.

Alberstadt has some impressive credits to his name including appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers and Last Comic Standing as well as contributing to SNL’s Weekend Update and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. What’s more, he’s completed eight (!) comedy tours for our troops stationed in Afghanistan and the Middle East.

You can learn more about Alberstadt and buy tickets to the show on the LaughFest website.

What: Comedian Keith Alberstadt
Where: Grand Volute Ballroom, 655 Lincoln Lake Ave.
When: Friday, March 10, 2017 at 7pm
Cost: $22.50 (general admission)

The other LaughFest event in Lowell this weekend will take place at the Englehardt Branch of the Kent District Library. Kids Joke Time will take place on Saturday afternoon. Comic Alan Trieu is expected to be on-hand, and Mr. Picklehead should be around to sing some songs.

However, the stars of this show are the kids who share their comedy during this open mic event. So help your child brush up on the timing of their “interrupting cow” joke, and then bring them to the library tomorrow to show it off.

What: Kids Joke Time
Where: Englehardt Library, 200 N. Monroe St.
When: Saturday March 11, 2017 at 1pm
Cost: Free!

Library and LowellArts Events

While the shows above are headlining this weekend in Lowell, they aren’t the only special events scheduled.

LowellArts has a beautiful new gallery on Main Street and would love for you to come by tomorrow, Saturday March 11th. From 1-4pm, they will have their Grand Re-Opening Open House. There will be refreshments and tours. You can also see at all the entries from the West Michigan Art Competition and view the winners. Trust us when we say there are some stunning works on display.

South of town, the Alto branch of Kent District Library is setting up a Creation Station. They are challenging kids to design something amazing using an assortment of clean recycled materials. Stop by the library on Saturday, March 11th from 10-11am to join in the fun. This event is best for kids age 6 and older.
