To the Editor and Fellow Readers:
We are writing to express our enthusiastic support of four Lowell Area Schools Board of Education candidates — Brian Krajewski, Laurie Kuna, Jessica Curtis, and Annie McMahon Whitlock — and to encourage all members in our community to make their voices heard by voting in the upcoming election.
These candidates each bring a fresh perspective, a commitment to our students’ success, and a passion for strengthening our schools. They understand that the future of our community lies in the quality of education we provide, and they are dedicated to ensuring that all students have access to the tools, resources, and support they need to thrive today and in the future.
Re-elect Brian Krajewski: Brian will ensure innovative, data-driven solutions that balance the needs of students and the community in a time of financial constraints. With a strong focus on leveraging technology responsibly and enhancing both physical and mental health safety, he will prioritize preparing students for the future while keeping their well-being at the forefront.
Re-elect Laurie Kuna: A life-long educator, Laurie presents a balanced approach to education, where students are equipped with both academic skills and emotional intelligence, fostering well-rounded, positive contributors to society. With a focus on fiscal responsibility, she will continue to prioritize the wise use of taxpayer dollars, ensuring the district’s financial stability while supporting essential programs like diversity, equity, and inclusion and social emotional learning.
Re-elect Jessica Curtis: Jessica is in-touch with the current challenges our students, teachers, and district face. She will ensure the district attracts and retains quality teachers by addressing pay gaps and preventing burnout, which are crucial for student success. With a focus on fiscal responsibility, she will prioritize mental health support for students and staff through innovative partnerships, while maintaining a strong academic foundation for the future.
Elect Annie McMahon Whitlock: Annie brings a fresh, informed perspective to the Board, grounded in listening to the community and school leaders about the district’s challenges and opportunities. She will focus on addressing declining enrollment, teacher shortages, and fostering a strong sense of belonging for students, staff, and the broader community while supporting academic excellence and staff growth.
These individuals have a shared vision for improving our schools while being responsive to the unique needs of our community. They’ve demonstrated a strong commitment to transparency, collaboration, and accountability, values that will ensure our schools remain places where students, teachers, and families feel heard and supported. This school board election has the power to shape the future of education in our community, and it is critical that we all take the time to engage in this process. We encourage everyone to research the candidates, understand their platforms, and most importantly, make your vote count. Our students deserve leaders who will prioritize their well-being and success.
Beyond the Board of Education, it is crucial to remember that every vote counts, locally and nationally. It is easy to sit by and assume others will take care of it, but that’s a mistake we cannot afford. Our democracy thrives on active participation, and your vote is your voice. By voting in both local and national elections, you shape the future of not just our schools but also our country. Don’t wait for others to act—your vote matters.
Sincerely,
Perry & Teresa Beachum
