Dear Editor,
Public schools are a reflection of the community they serve. I will be voting YES on May 7th, in support of students who live in the community I have called home for nearly 20 years.
The formula for a quality education requires many components which include but are not limited to- dedicated teachers/staff, committed and experienced leaders, a safe learning environment, clean and secure facilities, current/upgradable technology, and careful financial management of facilities and assets.
There is a delicate balance between managing budgets and expenses, while providing a creative and engaging learning experience for a diverse student population. There are many districts in Michigan that are facing budget deficits in the post-COVID funding era. This is due in large part to declining student enrollment throughout the state.
Leaders of Lowell Area Schools have carefully monitored and planned for future conditions and the new Middle School is a great example of being good stewards of the resources you have been given. Input from community members have helped identify needs and guide the improvements recommended in the May 7th bond request.
I appreciate this transparent approach and the fact that this bond will not cost taxpayers any increase. What it will do is provide the exceptional learning experience that our school district is known for and show the Lowell families and educators that we support you.
