We received the following press release from Lowell Light & Power.
Note: We have been informed that all trees have been reserved, but customers can still contact Lowell Light & Power to be added to a waitlist.
Following last year’s program success, Lowell Light & Power is again offering 100 FREE trees to customers through their Energy-Saving Trees Program, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.
Starting August 1st, Lowell Light & Power customers can reserve their free tree at the website provided in the July bill insert (available in mailed and electronic bills). Each customer can reserve one tree and plant it in the most strategic area as identified by the online mapping tool. While supplies last, tree species available are Red Maple, White Dogwood, and Saucer Magnolia.
“We are excited to offer this program to our customers again to help reduce their energy costs,” said Lisa Pape, Utility Services Specialist at Lowell Light & Power. “The Energy-Saving Trees program is a great way to beautify our city and boost community health and happiness, by encouraging physical activity, reducing stress and blood pressure, improving mental well-being, and so much more.”
The Energy-Saving Trees online tool shares the annual electric and fuel savings that will result from planting trees in the most strategic location near customers’ homes. In addition to providing approximate energy savings, the online tool estimates the tree’s other benefits, including air pollutants absorbed, carbon sequestered, and storm water filtered.
“This unique program benefits utility providers, their customers, and the communities they serve by finding natural ways to conserve energy,” said Kristen Bousquet, program manager at the Arbor Day Foundation. “The right trees in the right place can help a homeowner save up to 20 percent on their electric bill.”
The program will remain open until all 100 trees are reserved. Renters will need to provide written approval from their landlord.
Trees will be distributed at a Tree Pick-Up Event on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
