Lowell Softball Teams Raise Money for a Good Cause

We received the following information from Laurie Summerfield on behalf of the Lowell High School JV and Varsity softball teams.   While the team wasn’t able to sell water bottles to raise money and awareness for a good cause during an event, they hope to still fulfill their mission.

Megan Summerfield just finished her senior year.  As the senior team captain and catcher on the team, part of her job on and off the field was to help other players succeed on and off the field.  This was the first time the teams raised money. “We haven’t had a cause game before, but I hope the program keeps adding them to the schedule.” says Summerfield.  “Though I was in Dallas, TX for a business competition when the tournament was going to be held, the tournament meant so much to me personally because our cause (Juvenile Diabetes) isn’t talked about nearly enough. It brought attention to the fact that Juvenile Diabetes is more common than it is perceived, and it is still unknown what causes it.”

Read more below and contact Laurie Summerfield if you’re interested in supporting the team’s cause by purchasing a water bottle.  They are $5 each, but a larger donation per bottle will gladly be accepted.

From Laurie Summerfield:
It was a great year for Lowell Softball.  Both Junior Varsity and Varsity Teams were conference champions.  Varsity softball lost in regionals to the Caledonia team who became the MI state champions this past weekend.  A great season by win/loss standards.
But another positive of their season came in the form of a tournament that was cancelled due to weather.  Isagenix business owner, Amy VanHolla (Hayes) supported Lowell Softball and their quest to have a cause game.  The team’s parent rep along with Amy decided, with increasing students facing Type 1 diabetes, that they would sell water bottles at the Lowell Invitational Tournament to raise money for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Amy and her Isagenix business provided the water bottles. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate and the tournament was cancelled, so the team didn’t get a chance to sell the bottles at those games.
The softball team got donations from parents and relatives, and then Amy put a request on
Facebook to help with fundraising for JDRF.  Together, Amy and the team raised over
$1100.00, mostly coming from Amy and her business colleagues.  Feel free to contact: Laurie Summerfield if you would like to make a donation and to receive a water bottle! [email protected]
