Move Over Stanley, Bill’s Coming to Town

It’s no joke, yesterday the Kent County Youth Fair (KCYF) began a photo contest.  From now until the beginning of August, a weekly prize will be handed out, with all those who enter having a chance to be the weekly winner. There are several ways to enter the contest, but one requirement remains the same.  Flat Bill must appear in all photos.

The Kent County Youth Fair has been posting a photo a day for nearly a year.  Later this month their daily photos will come to an end. But the idea of daily photos will go on in another manner.  All ages are invited to submit photos. Each photo shared on social media or sent to a special contest email address will count as an entry.

Flat Out Fair Photo Frenzy
The #365kcyf hashtag came about after wanting to squash the idea of nothing happening at the fairgrounds or related to the youth fair aside from a few weeks leading to the main event.  “Nothing could be further from the truth! Planning a fair and operating a fairground is a year-long event.” says Fair Manager Jessica Marks.  April 21 of last year the Kent County Youth Fair Facebook page started posting one photo a day of something related to what is going on at the grounds or fair related happenings off their property.  The #365kcyf hashtag will continue after their daily photos end for the year, but it won’t be used on a daily basis.

The Flat Out Fair Photo Frenzy idea came from one of the KCYF board members.  Familiar with a similar endeavour, she mentioned the idea as a means of getting the fair’s name out in public and educate others on things exhibitors and their family experience as they get ready for fair week each year.  Local business Pinkney Hill Meat Company is the main sponsor for the event.

Adventures with Bill
Those who are fans of the Kent County Youth Fair will be able to pick up where Marks and the daily photo team of three leave off.  Bill is the 2018 fair mascot for this year’s UnforGOATable Fair, which will take place August 6-11.  The flat version of Bill is eager to go on adventures between now and the start of the fair in August.  If you and your family are interested in entering photos, Flat Bill can be printed off on the KCYF’s webpage.  Use a color version or use your creativity while decorating a black and white version.

Photos can be entered in the contest every Sunday at 12:01am through Saturday at midnight.  Each Sunday, beginning on April 8 and ending July 29, one winner will be randomly selected from all entries during the week to receive a $25 gift card for food, shopping, or entertainment.  If you own a business and would like to donate gift cards toward the weekly drawings contact the fair by calling 616-897-6050 or sending an email to [email protected].

A grand prize drawing will take place on August 5.  One random winner from ALL entries received from now through midnight on August 4 will be selected for the grand prize.  The grand prize winner will receive two 3-day Mega Passes for the carnival, one weekly fair parking pass, one $30 voucher to be used on fair food, and two KCYF t-shirts – a total value of $150.

Follow Bill’s Rules
The Flat Out Fair Photo Frenzy contest is open to people of all ages, although kids under the age of 18 need parental permission to submit any photos.  Enter daily if you wish. Enter on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and receive one entry for each media platform. Multiple entries per day are also allowed as long as different photos are used.  When posting a photo, the hashtag #flatoutfair must be used in addition to tagging on Instagram (kentcountyouthfair), Facebook (kentcountyyouthfair), or Twitter (kcyf). Photos can also be emailed to [email protected].  Name and location where the photo was taken should be included.  Don’t forget Flat Bill must also appear in each photo as well.

Regardless of how you enter the contest, entering means you give permission for the KCYF to share your entry on social media and/or use the photo in future marketing materials.  If a questionable photo is received, as far as content is concerned, it is up to the KCYF’s discretion in allowing the entry.

“We can’t wait to see what fantastic adventures Flat Bill takes part in over the next 4 months. Have fun taking and sharing photos for the Flat Out Fair Photo Frenzy!” says Denise Stain, social media guru for the fair.  Search the #flatoutfair hashtag across social media platforms to see what adventures Bill goes on. The KCYF will also share photos on their Facebook page and webpage. Additional information and complete contest rules can be viewed at the Flat Out Fair section of the KCYF webpage.  What adventures will Flat Bill go on with you?
