Pink Arrow and More: This Weekend in Lowell

Even the weather seemed to know it was Pink Arrow weekend in Lowell with a beautiful pink sunrise greeting residents this morning. Today’s big game against Ottawa Hills will be the highlight of the weekend for many people, but it’s certainly not the only thing going on in town.

Here’s a complete rundown of the weekend’s major activities.

PINK ARROW PRIDE GAME

The Lowell Red Arrows transform into the Lowell Pink Arrows as they host the Ottawa Hills Bengals. You can buy a Pink Arrow IX shirt at Springrove Variety today until 4pm or at the football stadium. Your shirt is your ticket into the game. Prices start at $15, and the money raised stays in the community to support families who have been affected by cancer.

Here are the times you need to know for today:

2:30pm – Gates open.

3:00pm – Concessions and Restaurant Row opens

At St. Patrick’s School, students had the option to trade in their uniforms for pink at school today.

Note: only those with handicap placards/plates or parking passes should use the Alden Nash entrance to the high school. All others can enter from Vergennes or park at Cherry Creek Elementary School or the Middle School and catch a shuttle.

PINK ARROW QUIVER

You have until 11:59pm tonight to sign up for the Pink Arrow Quiver 5K Run and Family Walk. While this is a timed race and there are prizes for the top finishers, you don’t have to be an athlete to take to the streets tomorrow morning and tour the town on foot.

Runners and walkers will meet at the Lowell Police Garage on Saturday morning and the starting gun goes off at 8:30am. The course will take participants on a 3.1 mile loop around town with post-race refreshments waiting at the end.

The cost for the event is $25 per adult and $15 for students and kids. Money raised goes to Gilda’s Club in Lowell and for family support services through Pink Arrow Pride.

You can register online and while you’re at it, check out the Triple Crown option. Why run in one race when you could register for all three Lowell 5k races at one low price? The Triple Crown includes the Pink Arrow Quiver, Harvest Hustle and Turkey Trot.

FALLASBURG FALL FESTIVAL

You know it’s fall when it’s time for the Fallasburg Fall Festival. Now in its 48th year, this two-day event is put on by LowellArts and brings crowds to Fallasburg Park which is located along the Flat River.

This year’s event runs from 10am-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. More than 100 fine arts and crafts artisans will be there with their wares on display. Plus, there are craft demonstrations, pumpkin painting for the kids and live music to entertain the whole family. Try your luck in the annual raffle or simply get something to eat, have a seat and enjoy the view.

Admission is free, and you can learn more on the LowellArts website.

ALTO HARVEST FESTIVAL

There’s another festival going on at the south side of town. The Alto Harvest Festival & Car Show is celebrating its 36th year this Saturday in downtown Alto.

Start the day with pancakes at the fire barn and then head to the library to pick up some good reads at the book sale. There will be inflatables for the kids, bingo for the adults and cool cars lining Depot Street.

FALLFEST & CAMP JAM

Last, but certainly not least, the West Michigan Bluegrass Association is hosting its 20th annual FallFest & Camp Jam at the city fairgrounds. The music starts today and runs through Saturday evening.

Tonight’s activities feature an open stage and 50/50 raffle while the highlights of tomorrow include workshops in the morning, a band scramble in early afternoon and headlining acts in the evening. Stop by the Reath Barn to catch the following groups on Saturday night.
