Pink Arrow Hair Drive Seeks Donations

New this year, a hair drive is taking place as part of Pink Arrow Pride activities.  Thanks to first grade student at Murray Lake, Easton Dressander, his idea has become a reality.  Donation boxes are already located at Station Salon and Jultara Salon where hair can be dropped off.  Continue reading to learn more about the drive and guidelines for donation.

An Idea Becomes Reality

Easton Dressander will be a first grade student at Murray Lake Elementary School in August.  It was his idea to have a hair drive as part of Pink Arrow. According to his mom, Erin, Easton came home one day and said he wanted to do a hair drive.  He continued to bring it up for three months, eventually prompting Erin to contact Pink Arrow. “I wanted the people that have cancer to feel happy because they would have hair again and feel like a regular person and like they did before. And the people that have hair wouldn’t have to be sad because they did. And I wanted a place or a way that people could go and help.” says Easton.

Donations Accepted Through September 13

Those who would like to make a donation of hair can do so by dropping it off of Station Salon or Jultara Salon.  Both have Pink Arrow boxes at their location to place bags containing hair. And both locations are more than happy to schedule an appointment to cut hair for a donation along with a style if that’s desired.  Or hair can be cut and styled with your personal stylist and dropped off. In addition to being able to drop off hair, stylists will be available during Community Day to cut hair to be used for donation, free of charge.  Only a cut will be performed – no styling.

All collected donations will be donated to Children with Hair Loss.  The national organization has a local division in Michigan. Dressander lists the following reasons for using the organization.

  • It is a way to help locally which is what Pink Arrow Pride really embodies
  • There is also no charge receive a wig; the recipients are able to receive a wig each year until they are 21
  • The group fits with Easton’s original request as child who wanted to help other children , (the organization just doesn’t stop at children with cancer it helps any child with hair loss conditions)
  • There are fewer restrictions in donating hair compared to other groups

Donating hair to be made into wigs is a great addition to this year’s Pink Arrow Pride events.  Those dealing with hair loss due to cancer or other diseases will often look to wear wigs. This organization will ensure that children dealing with hair loss have the opportunity to have and use a wig if desired.

Rules for Donation

As with any group accepting hair donations, Children with Hair Loss the following guidelines on their website.

Then drop it off at either Station Salon or Jultara Salon in the Pink Arrow donation box.
