Poultry Management Systems Give Back in Lowell Community

One local business has adopted two Lowell families this holiday season.  Poultry Management Systems, Inc. (PMSI) opened in September 2017 in Lowell.  The company provides “data collection, reporting and control systems help advance the agri-industries” according to their website.  These products help with efficiency in the poultry business. The panels they design aid in egg collection, lighting, running of fans, and distribution of feed to name a few.

Committee Formed to Discuss Giving

PMSI is home to about 33 employees.  Nearly a third of them have formed a committee to discuss how to give back to the community.  Kyle Forbush, a panel designer and one of the group’s members comments, “Life isn’t always easy.  If there’s something we can do to help out it’s a noble thing to do.” Working with Pink Arrow Pride, two families were selected to be adopted.

A food drive took place earlier in the fall with an end of October delivery.  In addition to food, some cash and gift cards were donated by employees. So much was given that some excess was donated to Flat River Outreach Ministries.  The drive went so well, a second batch of items is being collected and will be delivered to the same two families next week.

Rhonda’s Schuiteman’s family is one of the two who have received gifts from PMSI.  She is a single mom of two, Maya age 14 and Jada age 12. She has been diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer, which is a rare and aggressive type.  She is going through treatment which will take more than a year before it is complete. “The donations from Poultry Management have been amazing! We are totally overwhelmed by their generosity.  Their gifts have helped us with some of the extra expenses that come with cancer, with food, gas, and even birthday gifts for my daughter.” Schuiteman says.

Continuing the Success

With the overwhelming response by PMSI’s employees, the business is hoping to collect food, gift cards, and cash twice a year to help those in need in the Lowell community.  The committee feels that while help is often provided during the holiday season, they are aware that families need help throughout the year.

Glenn Allen, a panel designer and another member of the committee, hopes to not only help organize efforts but also brings his experience to the committee.  He lost his mom to cancer when he was in his 20s and understands how a diagnosis and treatment can be a drain on a family. He’s also hoping that in the future PSMI can adopt military families as well.

Pat Huver, PMSI’s administrative assistant delivered the first round of food to the company’s adopted families.  She enjoyed being able to make such a difference for others and even got choked up herself. But she’s also proud of the huge collection the team came up with during the two collection periods.

Schuiteman concludes by saying, “There are no words to describe the feeling of being supported and cared for in this journey, especially by total strangers.  Thank you, Poultry Management Systems!”
