Alto, MI – If you have not enjoyed a real small town festival lately this will be a good family time that should not be missed.  Come celebrate the beginning of fall Saturday, September 16 at the 37th annual Alto Harvest Festival & Car Show.

Begin your day with a pancake breakfast put on by the Alto/Bowne Township Fire Department at the Alto Fire Station at 6260 Bancroft beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 10:00 a.m.

The Alto Girl Scouts will be doing the opening flag raising ceremonies at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Park, located across from the Alto American Legion, Post #528.

During the festival visitors will find Arts and crafts vendors as well as Independent Consultants that will open at 9:00 a.m. and run until 3:00 p.m.  The parade begins at 11:30 AM featuring Mr. Karl Foy as this years Grand Marshall Honoree.

The Classic Car Show keeps growing in popularity.  Between 150-200 cars make the trip to Alto.   Make plans to take a trip down Memory Lane to view street rods and hot rods along with classic and muscle cars that will line the streets.  Goodie bags and dash plaques for the first 150 entries, top 50 awards with many quality door prizes handed out throughout the day.  Registration is $10.00 and starts at 7:30 a.m.  Awards at 3:00 p.m.  There will also be door prizes and a grocery guess.

There is a contest for everyone including the Blue Ribbon Baking Contest that brings in tasty treats every year.  One lucky entry will be chosen from the Adult and the Youth Division.  A Grand Champion will be chosen and awarded a cash prize of $25.  Categories include any and all desserts, cookies/bars, candies and yeast/quick breads.

Bingo will once again be hosted by the Alto American Legion, Post #528 from 11am to 6pm.  They will also be holding a Membership Drive as well as serving half BBQ chicken with sides. The Legion will be open to the public.

Returning contest favorite, Baking Bingo, is a new twist on an old game. Instead of prize money you can win baked goods and baking essentials.  This is a true Harvest Festival original.  Other contests include pie eating contest  and a Scavenger Hunt.  If you can figure out the clues you will find a sweet treat awaiting you when you turn in your hunt sheet.  The Alto Library will once again host a gently used book sale.

Located on the “Green” will be the Free Kids Area where there will be inflatables, Cheek to Cheek face painting, a Petting Zoo, as well as an Emergency Vehicle Display.  A returning kid’s favorite the Pedal Tractor Pull will be awarding trophies, medals and participation ribbons for all participants.

At Veterans Park the Lumberjack for Lemonade Contest will be making a return visit.   Everyone can be a lumberjack for this great cause and win great prizes.  Proceeds going to Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Spinal Cord Tumor research from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Food is always on everyone’s mind and a variety of mouth- watering items will be on hand to choose from. The Alto American Legion will be serving BBQ chicken with all the fixings.  The Alto Bar will be serving brats, ribs, brisket and pulled pork all day long.  The Lowell Robotics Team will be serving up Walking Taco’s as well as other goodies.  Other offering include Kettle Corn, hots dogs and more.

Alto is not hard to find; it is located just off I-96 at exit 52.  After exiting I-96 go south on M-50 following it to 60th street.  Turn West on 60th St.    When you come to the stop sign at Bancroft you have arrived in Alto.  Parking is available on the street and the Alto Baptist church.
