LOWELL, MI, January 9, 2019 – LowellArts announces the call for entries for the 33rd annual West Michigan Art Competition. The competition highlights outstanding artwork by lower West Michigan artists. Artwork is selected by a guest juror. Art in all visual media is eligible, by artists 18 yrs. and older who reside in a 25 county region. Cash awards totaling $2500 will be awarded to 1st through 5th place. All entries must be submitted digitally at
www.callforentry.org. Entry requirements can be found at
www.lowellartsmi.org/west-mich-art-competition-2019. Deadline for entry is January 28, 2019.
Selected entries will be on display at the LowellArts Gallery (223 W Main St, Lowell, MI 49331) from February 23 – March 30, 2019. Gallery hours are: Tues-Fri 10am-6pm and Sat 10am-5pm. A Meet-the-Artists Reception and Presentation of Awards is scheduled for Sunday, February 24, 2-4pm. The event is free and open to the public.
This year’s distinguished juror is Rufus Snoddy, a Professor of Art at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. Rufus Snoddy has a B.A.-design and M.A. in Fine Art with emphasis on sculpture. He is a painter/sculptor whose work has been shown in New York, Philadelphia, Santa Fe, Paris, Michigan, and several galleries and museums in California.
Artists can submit one piece to be juried. The artists also must reside in one of 25 eligible counties in west Michigan. Eligible west Michigan counties included: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Cass, Calhoun, Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Muskegon, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Ottawa, Saint Joseph, Van Buren.
Award winners will be posted on the LowellArts website (
www.lowellartsmi.org) on February 24, along with a full list of pieces included in the exhibition.
