PRESS RELEASE FROM FLAT RIVER GALLERY AND FRAMING
Flat River Gallery and Framing is proud to host an opening reception for Guest Artist Barbara Price Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 6-8pm. The public is invited to attend and enjoy Barbara’s work as well as the work of full time artists.Barbara’s show will run until Thursday, January 31, 2019.
Barbara was born in Saint Louis Missouri and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan at age thirteen. She cannot remember a time when she didn’t draw.Barbara received an Associate in Fine Art degree in 1979, but her focus in education changed. She has been a Psychotherapist since 1992 and has enjoyed the profession working with people in need.A few years ago, at the encouragement of her friends, Barbara began to draw and paint once again. She is currently working in watercolors this time around, having previously worked mainly in oil. Barbara is enjoying the transparency and fluidity in the work she creates.
Barbara feels her style is often influenced by Henri Matisse, which are quite evident in her paintings of interiors and the use of color and pattern. She believes her history as an oil painter is often clear in her watercolors, as the colors are often quite strong. Barbara continues to grow as a painter, learning new skills and working with contemporary artists. She feels herself in awe of those around her who work as full-time artists and their work exemplifies the hours of devotion to their art. She is looking forward to the time when she may have more time to immerse her self in her art. Until then, Barbara continues to paint for her own joy and hope that others experience enjoyment from viewing my work as well.
Barbara has been accepted in several juried shows and art festivals around Michigan. A watercolor triptych currently hangs in Pine Rest Christian Hospital in Cutlerville, Michigan. And she is very proud to have shown in Art Prize 2017 and 2018.
