We received the following press release from the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce.

LOWELL, Mich., June 29, 2018 – The annual Lowell Riverwalk Festival will be held this year on July 12-14, 2018. The family-friendly event draws thousands to the picturesque Kent County community which is home to the Lowell Showboat, a historic downtown and vibrant arts scene.

The Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the event for years, and it features a roster of popular activities including pontoon rides, a cruise-in and Kidz Zone. New this year is a twist on the annual parade which will have people dancing in the streets.

“This is the summer celebration for the Lowell area,” says Liz Baker, Executive Director for the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. “This is when we have our parade and our fireworks, and people come from all over to be part of it.”

Beginning at noon on Thursday, the Riverwalk Festival includes activities designed to appeal to people of all ages and interests. Thursday events include a farmer’s market, pig roast and free concert featuring The Soul Syndicate.

On Friday, highlights include pontoon rides on the Flat River, a used book sale at the library and live music by two groups: The Adams Family and Alive & Well. Artisan vendors and non-profit organizations will be set up in booths along the Riverwalk.

Saturday is a full day starting with the Run the Riverwalk 5K in the morning and ending with The Laurels of Kent Fireworks. In between, there will be the $1500 State Farm Duck Raffle, a kayak and canoe race, cruise-in, Kidz Zone with bounce house and petting zoo, artisan vendors, grilling and chilling food vendors and much more.

As one of the highlights of the Riverwalk Festival, the parade begins at 12pm on Saturday and runs down Lowell’s historic Main Street from Broadway Street to Jackson Street. This year, the crowds who gather are invited to be more than spectators. Instead, they encouraged to go “Dancin’ in the Streets,” which is also the 2018 parade theme.

Families are encouraged to arrive early to grab a spot along the parade route. Starting at 11:45am, volunteers will be handing out candy bags, and 20 lucky people will find a golden duck egg containing Lowell Bucks in their bag.

All activities occur in the Lowell downtown and along the city’s Riverwalk. A full schedule of events and additional details regarding the Lowell Riverwalk Festival can be found online at www.riverwalkfestival.org.
