We received the following press release from the Lowell Police Department.

April 13, 2021: The Lowell Police Department promoted Officer Ian Shears to full-time police officer after passing an interview panel of local law enforcement officials, passing a hands-on scenario, and completing a police report. Ian Shears has been with the Lowell Police Department as a part time officer since October, 2016.

Ian has attended Central Michigan University and Grand Rapids Community College, graduating in 2015 majoring in Criminal Justice. Ian became MCOLES (Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards) certified at that time.

During Ian’s tenure as part of the part-time staff, he has filled in for full-time officers who were on other assignments, worked for an extended filling a full-time position, and has filled several part time shifts on the road patrol and community events. Ian has been awarded the Life Savings Citation, earned the Top Shot and Marksmanship awards in training, and has received letters of commendation.

Ian is an avid hunter and outdoorsman, a family man, and a member of the Lowell area community.

For the first time in months, the Lowell Police Department will be fully staffed.
