Lowell, MI Wednesday, May 5, 2021– It has been four years in the making! In June, The Lowell Showboat VI will be introduced at two special events. This community icon and rental venue will soon be available to the public.
On Friday, June 11th, a special “Lowell Showboat Gala Celebration” will take place. This invitation-only event will serve as a thank you to those donors who have contributed $1,000 or more to the Lowell Showboat VI. Former State Senator Dave Hildenbrand, who was instrumental in securing state funding earmarked for this project, will be one of the evening’s speakers, along with City Manager Mike Burns. “As a life-long resident of Lowell, the Showboat represents so much of our history and is such an important connection for the community”, said Mr. Hildenbrand. “I am so thankful for all those who made the new Showboat VI a reality. It will be a huge part of our fabric for many, many years.” Food, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and tours of the boat will round out the evening’s festivities.
Our second event, which is focused on the public, will take place on Saturday, June 12th, during this year’s Expo on the Riverwalk. With the Expo booths lining our Riverwalk Plaza, self-tours of The Lowell Showboat VI venue will be offered throughout the day. The showboat has been designed to replicate riverboats of the past. You will be able to view the Grand Staircase, the special wall coverings on the first and second deck, the tin ceilings and the custom-made pilot’s wheel, located in the third-floor Pilot House.
The Lowell Showboat VI venue will provide ample rental space. Consider holding family gatherings, weddings and baby showers, open houses, business meetings and holiday get-togethers in this unique setting. City Manager Mike Burns says, “The Lowell Showboat is the epicenter of our Downtown. Being the “Showboat City”, we are excited to be able to make this the show piece our community deserves.”
